摘要: An orthopedic fixation system includes an orthopedic implant and a compression insert transitionable between a natural shape and an insertion shape. The orthopedic implant includes first and second plates with insert slots configured to receive therein a portion of the compression insert. The first and second plates secure with a bone in an opposed relationship while being separated by an expansion whereby the insert slots of the first and second plates align across the expansion. The compression insert, in the insertion shape, inserts into the insert slots of the first and second plates such that the compression insert spans the expansion. The compression insert, due to an attempted transition thereof from the insertion shape to the natural shape, delivers energy stored therein to the first plate and the second plate whereby the orthopedic implant affixes the bone.

The apparatus can include a wire including a bump and a valve including a friction element configured to apply a friction force to the wire. The friction force can vary based on one or more of: a speed at which the wire is pulled through the friction element, a direction in which the wire is pulled through the friction element, and a contact between the bump and the friction element. The wire can be configured to deploy an implant upon a proximal retraction of the wire.

摘要: A sensing device for detecting an artificially induced neuromuscular response within a limb of a subject includes a carrier material and a plurality of mechanical sensors. The carrier material is operative to be secured around a portion of the limb, and each of the plurality of mechanical sensors are coupled with the carrier material. Each mechanical sensor is positioned on the carrier material such that it is operative to monitor a mechanical response of a different muscle group of the limb. Each mechanical sensor then generates a respective mechanomyography output signal corresponding to the monitored mechanical response of its adjacent muscle group.

摘要: An articulating driver having a ball-in-socket joint. The driver may include a driver tip having a spherical head, a retention cap having a domed surface to mate with the spherical head, an input shaft, a spring disposed in an end of the input shaft and in a recess of the retention cap opposite that of the domed surface, and a housing that receives the input shaft, the spring, the retention cap and the spherical head. The housing may have a tapered end to positionally retain the spherical head therein. In another aspect, the driver may include a driver tip coupled to the input shaft that includes an interface to engage a screw. A bushing may engage the driver tip at one end and receive the screw at the other end to retain the screw within the driver.

摘要: An orthopedic fixation system includes an implant and an implant insertion device. The implant transitions between a natural shape and an insertion shape and includes a bridge and first and second anchoring members extending from the bridge. The first and second anchoring members each include a segment extending exterior to the bridge to provide an engagement point. The implant insertion device moves between loaded and unloaded positions. The implant insertion device in its loaded position by-passes the bridge and engages the segment of the first anchoring member at its engagement point and the segment of the second anchoring member at its engagement point such that the implant insertion device constrains the implant in its insertion shape. The implant insertion device in its unloaded position releases the implant.
