On the basis of the prediction result, the image is then printed by selecting the highest convey speed from convey speeds at which upper limit powers used and rated average power consumption are determined. This makes it possible to provide an image printing method and apparatus which can realize high-speed image printing.

There are disclosed a printing method and apparatus which can prevent an overcoat layer formed on the surface of a printing medium for the purpose of protecting a printed image from being torn off or peeling from the printing medium so that an overcoat agent will not become a contaminant and stain a print in the printing apparatus, cause image print abnormality, or become fine or powder dust in the environment. This apparatus prints an image on a printing medium having perforations that allow easy cutoff of margin portions by applying ink to the printing medium across the perforations, and forms a protection layer on the printing medium on which the image has been formed by transferring a protection agent avoiding the perforation portions.

In converting image sensing data into image data, a plurality of image sensing data meeting a predetermined condition are processed as a group of image sensing data. An image reproduction parameter is obtained from this image sensing data group, and each image sensing data of the image sensing data group is converted into image data by using the image reproduction parameter. Accordingly, an image reproduction parameter for obtaining an optimum reproduced image can be accurately set from the image sensing data group. Also, since a reproduction luminance level (range) is determined from the image sensing data group, the correlation between the luminances of image planes is not lost. This allows an easy comparison of reproduced images and prevents the boundaries of luminances from becoming unnatural when the reproduced images are synthesized.
