Abstract: A method for determining an emotional state of a subject taking an assessment. The method includes eliciting predicted facial expressions from a subject administered questions each intended to elicit a certain facial expression that conveys a baseline characteristic of the subject; receiving a video sequence capturing the subject answering the questions; determining an observable physical behavior experienced by the subject across a series of frames corresponding to the sample question; associating the observed behavior with the emotional state that corresponds with the facial expression; and training a classifier using the associations. The method includes receiving a second video sequence capturing the subject during an assessment and applying features extracted from the second image data to the classifier for determining the emotional state of the subject in response to an assessment item administered during the assessment.

Abstract: A method, non-transitory computer-readable medium, and apparatus for localizing a region of interest using a dynamic hand gesture are disclosed. For example, the method captures the ego-centric video containing the dynamic hand gesture, analyzes a frame of the ego-centric video to detect pixels that correspond to a fingertip using a hand segmentation algorithm, analyzes temporally one or more frames of the ego-centric video to compute a path of the fingertip in the dynamic hand gesture, localizes the region of interest based on the path of the fingertip in the dynamic hand gesture and performs an action based on an object in the region of interest.

Abstract: A method of image annotation includes obtaining a candidate annotation map for an annotation task for an image from each of a set of annotation models wherein each of the candidate annotation maps includes suggested annotations for the image, receiving user selections or modifications of at least one of the suggested annotations from one or more of the candidate annotation maps, and generating a final annotation map based on the user selections or modifications from the one or more of the candidate annotation maps.
