Abstract: Methods and systems for rendering a print job can involve saving an initial characteristic of a print job during a setup of the print job, comparing a current characteristic of the print job to the initial characteristic, and applying a transformation to compensate for a mismatch between the initial characteristic and the current characteristic prior to rendering of the print job. The print job is rendered after applying the transformation. The transformation may be performed in a vector space prior to marking of the print job in a device space.

Abstract: Methods and systems for rendering a gloss effect can involve determining among a first color and a second color, which of the first color or the second color is mixed with a black colorant that is furthest from a rich black colorant; selecting a first color with the black colorant; selecting a second color to be fully black and a least rich black colorant; creating an object with the first color and entering data within the object opaquely with the second color; and rendering a document with the object including the data with the object, wherein the object with the data can exhibit a gloss effect based on the first color and the second color.

Abstract: Methods and system for creating an infrared effect that can survives copying, can involve providing a metameric pair of pattern inks, wherein a first pattern ink reflects higher in an infrared spectrum as compared to a second pattern ink among the metameric pair of pattern inks, wherein the second pattern ink is less reflective than the first pattern ink. For the second pattern ink that is less reflective than the first pattern ink, a pattern can be created for the second pattern ink that is larger and less scattered than an existing design for a pattern ink. A color of media can be used as a common color for the metameric pair of patterns and inks to create an infrared effect from the metameric pair of pattern inks that survives copying on the media.

Abstract: Methods and systems for rendering a transparent pantograph pattern. A background path and a foreground path for a pantograph pattern can be determined. An intersection internal to the background path and external to foreground path that is to be marked can be defined. Areas to be masked can be defined with respect to the pantograph pattern. The pantograph pattern can be then rendered as a transparent vector pattern pantograph by writing a background based on the background path and a foreground based on the foreground path and the areas defined as masked.

Abstract: To generate a security mark, a system prints first and second patterns on a first document using non-infrared absorbing colors. A print engine will receive the substrate and create a copy of the security mark onto a second document. When printing the second document the print engine may use ink of an infrared-absorbing color, such as black, to print a hidden security element of the security mark. When an infrared camera captures a digital image of the second document and the captured image is displayed, the captured image will reveal the hidden security element.

Abstract: A print device prints a document with a security marking in a microtext font. A scanning device scans the security marking, and an optical character recognition (OCR) engine attempts to recognize the characters in the security marking. The system the generates an encoding in which each character of the font is mapped to a character string made up only of characters that the OCR engine could recognize at or above a minimum recognition threshold. Then, when generating a new document with a new security marking in the microtext font, the system will use the encoding to replace each character in the security marking with its representation from the encoding so that the scanner and OCR engine can decode the security marking.

Abstract: To troubleshoot an error, a printer uses a job ticket and printer-independent document data to perform a job, such as printing a document. The job ticket includes instructions for hardware component settings of the printer. In response to a capture bug command, the printer will capture, from a group of hardware configuration sensors, real-time values of the settings for the print device hardware components while the print device implements performs the job. The printer will save the captured real-time values of the settings, the job ticket, and the printer-independent document data to a merged file, and it will transmit the merged file to a maintenance service.

Abstract: A system prints a document using a device-independent pattern ink cell that is appropriate for the print device. The system does this by identifying an object in a print job corresponding to a security element that identifies a pattern ink cell for a color parameter. The system then defines a device-independent pattern ink cell for rendering the identified object. The definition of the device-independent pattern ink cell includes at least one scaling routine for adjusting a parameter of the device-independent pattern ink cell based on a resolution of a print device that will be used for printing the document. The system then queries and receives from a print system a device resolution of the print device, executes the at least one scaling routine to transform the device-independent pattern ink cell to yield a device-dependent pattern ink cell, and generates a print using the device-dependent pattern ink cell.

Abstract: A document generation system creates a secure document by: receiving document content to be printed onto a substrate; creating a stencil mask comprising an image of at least a portion of the document content; receiving an image of a watermark to be printed on the substrate; modifying the watermark to remove portions of the watermark that will correspond to locations of the stencil mask; causing a print device to print the document content on the substrate; and causing the print device to print the modified watermark through the stencil mask on the substrate.

Abstract: A user interface of a printer displays instructions to use the printer's document scanner for scanning a sheet of print media (of a stack of print media being added to the paper drawer) in response to a drawer sensor detecting the opening of the paper drawer. The document scanner generates an electronic image of the sheet of print media from the scanning of the sheet of print media. The processor evaluates the electronic image of the sheet of print media to identify the media type and color of the stack of print media being added to the paper drawer. For example, this is done by evaluating the size, color characteristic, transparency, and reflection characteristic of the electronic image of the sheet of print media. Then, the electronic memory records that the paper drawer contains the stack of print media having a specific media type and color.
