摘要: An electronic device such as a cellular telephone, for example, includes a receiver that receives broadcast radio signals transmitted by a commercial broadcast radio station. The broadcast radio signals include information that identifies a location of the radio station, an antenna associated with the radio station, or the radio station. The device also includes positioning circuitry to allow the device to determine its current location. A controller in the device extracts the information identifying the radio station from the received broadcast signal, and acquires one or more satellites of a navigational system based on the information.

摘要: Light sources are affixed at appropriate positions in a multilevel structure or in an obstructed environment. The light sources generate modulated light signals, such as controlled light-emitting diodes, which identify the positions of the light sources by their three-dimensional global positioning coordinates and/or equivalent representation that specifies their in situ locations in the environment. Mobile communication devices, upon receiving the light signals, can derive spatial positioning information and transmit such information to a remote location, such as an emergency response system.

摘要: A femtocell base station is configured to transmit site-specific services data to in-range wireless devices, using a common broadcast channel. The site-specific services data identifies available services including, but not limited to, alternate radio signals available in the vicinity, such as FM radio signals, wireless local-area network (WLAN) signals, and the like; location-related services, including the availability of location beacon signals and/or location assistance data for use in position determination using assisted-GPS technology; and physical resources available to the device user, such as printers, copy machines, vending services, and the like. An exemplary mobile station is configured to extract site-specific services data from the femtocell base station signal, and to access a second radio signal using the site-specific services data. In some embodiments, the second radio signal may comprise a low-power FM radio signal, a wireless local-area network (WLAN) signal, a location beacon, or a radio-navigation signal.

摘要: An electronic device has a display, a controller, and a pair of haptic transducers connected to the display. The controller configures the haptic transducers to momentarily vibrate the display. A pair of sensors disposed on the display detects variations caused by the user touch in the vibrations. Based on an analysis of these variations, the controller can determine whether a user performed at least one of a swipe action and a multi-touch action, across the display.

摘要: A coordinated signaling scheme for both uplink and downlink transmissions between a base station and a user terminal reduces the amount of time that the user terminal must turn on its receiver to listen for scheduling messages and ACK/NACK signaling. A scheduler at a base station aligns the transmission of downlink scheduling messages (e.g., downlink assignments) with uplink grants and ACK/NACK signaling for uplink transmissions. Aligning the downlink scheduling messages with uplink control signaling enables the user terminal to turn off its receiver for longer periods of time.

摘要: An application program in a host server is operative to detect a change in the host server IP address and, in response thereto, send a message containing the changed address to a remote client, such as a mobile communication device. The message may be transmitted as an email message to a Short Message Server of a cellular provider for the mobile communication device. The message preferably contains at least the changed IP address of the server. The SMS server can identify the phone number of the mobile communication device from the received message and thereby transmit the changed IP address portion of the message to the mobile communication device.

摘要: A plurality of light sources is mounted on a housing of an interactive user device. The sources are spaced from each other in a defined spatial relationship, for example in a linear configuration. At least one light sensor is also positioned at the surface of the housing. The light sensor senses light that is reflected from an object placed by the user, such as the user's finger, within an area of the light generated by the light sources. A processor in the user device can recognize the sensed reflected light as a user input command correlated with a predefined operation and respond accordingly to implement the operation.

摘要: An interactive media and game system creates a live event simulation that enables users to participate in a live event through a virtual participant controlled by the user. A game server receives user input controlling a position of a virtual participant in said live event, determines a position and orientation of the virtual participant based on said user input, and creates a simulated view of the event from the perspective of the virtual participant. To create the simulated view, the game server selects a video source from among a plurality of video sources based on the position of the virtual participant, determines a position and orientation of the selected video source, and transforms a video image supplied by the selected video source based on the position and orientation of the selected video source relative to the virtual participant. Transforming may entail interpolating between two or more video images from two of more different video sources.
