This invention relates to a sheetlike wholly aromatic polyamide shaped article useful as electrical insulating materials excellent in corona resistance (corona durability) and in surface smoothness. The corona durability of said sheetlike shaped article is increased to 150 minutes or above by adding a nonionic polymer flocculant to an aqueous dispersion comprising 10 to 90% by weight of mica particles, preferably treated with a silane coupling agent and 90 to 10% by weight of a wholly aromatic polyamide stock (fibrids and fibers) in obtaining the sheetlike shaped article from the aqueous dispersion by wet shaping.

A shaped silicon carbide-based ceramic article having an improved mechanical strength is produced at a high efficiency by a process comprising the step of: forming an organic silicon polymer, for example, polycarbosilastyrene copolymer, into a predetermined shape, for example, a filament or film; doping the shaped polymer with a doping material consisting of at least one type of halogen, for example, bromine or iodine, in an amount of 0.01% to 150% based on the weight of the shaped polymer, to render the shaped polymer infusible; and pyrolyzing the infusible shaped polymer into a shaped SiC-based ceramic article at a temperature of 800.degree. C. to 1400.degree. C. in an inert gas atmosphere, optionally the halogen-doped shaped polymer being treated with a basic material, for example, ammonia, before the pyrolyzing step, to make the filament uniformly infusible.

This invention discloses (1) a dispersant for an aqueous carbonaceous solid slurry, which comprises a water-soluble copolymer having an average molecular weight of 1,000 to 500,000 and obtained by polymerizing (A) 0.1 to 7 mol % of a polyalkylene glycol mono(meth)acrylate type monomer, (B) 5 to 94.9 mol % of a sulfoalkyl (meth)acrylate type monomer, (C) 5 to 94.9 mol % of an unsaturated carboxylic acid type monomer, and (D) 0 to 20 mol % of other monomer (providing that the total amount of the monomers is 100 mol %) and/or a salt of the water-soluble copolymer and (2) an aqueous carbonaceous solid slurry composition, which comprises 100 parts by weight of as carbonaceous solid and 0.01 to 5 parts by weight of the aforementioned dispersant.

A crystalline wholly aromatic polyester:(1) which consists essentially ofa polymer unit A of the formula ##STR1## a polymer unit B of the formula ##STR2## a polymer unit C of the formula ##STR3## these polymer units being bonded together to form an ester having a linkage (--COO--),(2) which has a melting point lower than that of the known crystalline wholly aromatic polyester having same composition; a process for the production of a crystalline wholly aromatic polyester, using a phenol or phenol derivative as a reaction medium; a reinforced resin composition comprising the above wholly aromatic polyester; and a shaped or molded article formed from the above resin composition.
