An apparatus and method for managing the layout of a window is provided. The apparatus includes a display unit that displays the window on a screen; the screen is divided into a plurality of display areas; a pointer-position-checking unit that checks the coordinate position of a pointer moved by a user and determines the one display area corresponding to the position of the checked pointer; and a window-size-adjusting unit that moves the window to the one display area where the pointer is positioned and adjusts the size of the window in proportion to the size of the one display area.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for reducing power consumption in a display area of an electronic device such as a portable computer are provided. Such a method includes: (a) activating a mode of setting the display area to a white background screen using a first input command of a user; and (b) locating the white background screen over all windows, except for a current task window being displayed in part of the display area. Additionally, the apparatus for reducing power consumption in a display area includes an input unit receiving a first input command from a user; a mode activation unit for activating a mode of setting the display area to a white background screen according to a first input command from a user; and a location setting unit for locating the white background screen over all windows, except for a current task window being displayed in part of the display area. As a result, the lifetime of a battery of a portable computer is maximized by reducing power consumption in the portion of a display area that is not being used by a user.

A method of controlling a computer system including a remote controller having a plurality of selection buttons and producing different remote signals according to selection of a user, and a system controller controlling the system in response to the remote signal produced by the remote controller. The method includes setting up a mouse function according to the remote signals corresponding to the selection buttons of the remote controller; receiving the remote signals from the remote controller; determining whether the mode of the remote controller is selected for a mouse mode; and changing the received remote signal into a mouse message for performing the preset mouse function and providing the mouse message to the system controller, when it is determined that the remote controller is employed in the mouse mode.

A method of, and an apparatus to perform, sorting files and/or folders based on frequencies of use, the sorting including inputting a frequency sorting selection so that the files and/or lower folders in a specific folder are sorted based on the frequencies of use; accessing a frequency database including information regarding the frequencies of the files and/or lower folders in the folder in which the frequency sorting is performed in response to the frequency sorting selection, sorting the files and/or lower folders in the folder based on the frequencies in the frequency database, and displaying the result of the sorting.

Provided is a method and apparatus for managing the power of a portable computer system, in which a convenient user interface is provided. The method includes calculating a range of a desired time-of-use based on power consumption of the portable computer system and a remaining battery capacity at a minimum power level of the portable computer system, providing the calculated range of the desired time-of-use and a desired time input box that allows a user to input the desired time-of-use, inputting the desired time-of-use through the desired time input box, and resetting the power level of the portable computer system according to the input desired time-of-use.

An operating system switching method in a computer system having at least two operating systems is provided. The operating system switching method may include receiving a command of switching a first operating system that is currently running to a second operating system, causing the computer system to make a transition to a low-power sleeping state in response to the command, and booting the computer system using the second operating system in the transitioned state.

Apparatus and method of processing touchpad input information are provided. The method includes mapping an input region of a touchpad to a display region as absolute coordinates, converting contact location coordinates into absolute coordinates, when a pointing tool touches the input region, and moving a mouse pointer displayed on the display region according to the converted contact location coordinates. The input region of a touchpad is mapped to a display region as absolute coordinates such that information can be directly input using the touchpad.
