摘要: An optical modulator includes a substrate, an optical waveguide, a control electrode applying a high frequency signal in order to modulate light waves propagating through the optical waveguide, and a relay substrate provided with a relay line to transfer the high frequency signal to the control electrode. The control electrode and the relay line together have a coplanar line structure inclusive of at least electrical connection portions of both the control electrode and the relay line. The control electrode includes an electrical connection portion and a routing portion positioned between the electrical connection portion and an active portion applying an electrical field to the optical waveguide. The routing portion has a coplanar line structure. A distance between ground electrodes sandwiching a signal electrode in the electrical connection portion of the control electrode is substantially equal to a distance between ground electrodes sandwiching a signal electrode of the routing portion.

摘要: An optical element module includes an optical modulation element having first and second optical modulator units, a polarization combining means for combining two modulated lights which are emitted from the first and second optical modulator units, by making planes of polarization orthogonally cross each other; a housing which houses the optical modulation element and the polarization combining means; and a lens holder which holds a collimating lens which is disposed between the polarization combining means and an optical fiber, with the lens holder further holding the optical fiber. The optical element module is configured by joining the housing and the lens holder together by welding. In the lens holder, an outer diameter of a welding place is smaller than an outer diameter of a part which holds the collimating lens.

摘要: An object of the present invention is to provide an optical 90-degree hybrid circuit which is capable of easily adjusting the optical power ratio between signal and local oscillator and suppresses an optical system of an optical receiver becoming complex and optical receivers using the same. The optical 90-degree hybrid circuit for demodulating multilevel phase-modulated signals corresponding to individual polarized waves by multiplexing an optical wave having a predetermined plane of polarization contained in signal and local oscillator that has the same wavelength as the signal and has been adjusted to circularly-polarized signal, and polarization-splitting the multiplexed signal includes polarization splitting means (polarization splitting) for extracting an optical wave having a predetermined plane of polarization from the signal, a polarization conversion element for rotating a plane of polarization of the optical wave extracted from the polarization splitting means, and a polarizer that determines a plane of polarization of the signal before multiplexing the signal with the local oscillator, and the polarization splitting means, the polarization conversion element, and the polarizer adjust intensity of the optical signal (VOA function) in cooperation with each other.
