Abstract:
A method and an apparatus for managing power of a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) module in a portable terminal are provided. In the method, the WLAN module is operated according to a Power Save Mechanism (PSM). Whether the portable terminal operates in a sleep state is determined. At least one of a beacon interval and a Delivery Traffic Indication Map (DTIM) interval of the PSM is changed depending on whether the portable terminal operates in the sleep state.
Abstract:
An electronic device and method for updating authentication information in the electronic device is provided. The electronic device includes a short-range communication unit configured to provide a short-range communication and a controller configured to update information for authentication information from advertisement service information received from an Access Point (AP) identified through the short-range communication unit, download authentication information using the update information for authentication information, and connect the electronic device to the AP based on the authentication information.
Abstract:
A method for operating an electronic device is provided. The method includes determining, by the electronic device, a position estimation point according to state information of the electronic device. Further, the method includes transmitting a position estimation request message to an Access Point (AP) at the determined position estimation point with a wireless Local Area Network (LAN) connection not being performed, and receiving position information of the electronic device from the AP.
Abstract:
An electronic device includes a memory configured to store identification information of an information server that is matched with an encryption key; and a controller configured to send, before the electronic device is connected with an external device, a request for network information of the external device to the external device in a network discovery frame encrypted using the encryption key matched with the identification information of the information server, and to receive the network information of the external device from the external device in the encrypted network discovery frame.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for reducing power consumption in a portable terminal that transmits digital broadcast data through an ad hoc network are provided. If a terminal receiving digital broadcast transmits the received digital broadcast to a neighboring terminal, a control unit enters a sleep mode after buffering received data for a predefined time.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for Peer-to-Peer (P2P) connection using a wireless Local Area Network (LAN) in a mobile communication terminal are provided. The method includes detecting a P2P connection attempt of a new terminal not connected to P2P communication, during P2P communication with at least one terminal, determining whether the mobile communication terminal operates as a slave terminal or a group owner in the P2P connection, and when the mobile communication terminal operates as the slave terminal, transmitting a signal indicating that the P2P connection attempt of the new terminal is detected, to a terminal operating as the group owner in the P2P connection.

Abstract:
A method and electronic device for network connection and authentication is disclosed herein. A control unit is configured to detect authentication information necessary to access a communication network, and detect whether the authentication information corresponding to the communication network is stored in a profile storing at least the authentication information for at least the communication network. A radio frequency (RF) processing unit configured to couple to the communication network in response to detecting that the authentication information is authenticated by an authentication server for the communication network.
Abstract:
An apparatus and a method for connecting to a device in a wireless terminal, and more particularly, to an apparatus and method for more conveniently connecting to a desired device in a communication mode of a wireless terminal are provided. The apparatus includes a near distance communication module for exchanging device information for a communication connection through a contact with a specific device, and a controller for controlling the near distance communication module to connect communication to the specific device based on the exchanged device information.
Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to control a service set in a wireless communication system. The wireless communication system comprises: a first access point (AP) comprising a first wireless fidelity (WiFi) communication circuit for providing a first basic service set (BSS); and a second AP comprising a second WiFi communication circuit for providing a second BSS. The first WiFi communication circuit wirelessly receives, from a first mobile station, a first connection request including information on a wireless LAN standard of the first mobile station, wirelessly provides a second mobile station with at least a part of the information, wirelessly receives, from the second mobile station, an approval of a connection of the first mobile station thereto, and after receiving the approval, disconnects a first wireless connection from the first mobile station. The second WiFi communication circuit wirelessly receives an approval from the second mobile station, wirelessly receives a second connection request from the first mobile station, establishes a second wireless connection with the first mobile station on the basis of the approval, and exchanges data with the first mobile station through the second wireless connection. Other embodiments are also possible.
