Disclosed is an external electronic device for enabling an Internet of Things-supporting device to subscribe to a network. The external electronic device, according to the present disclosure, may provide, on a display thereof, an interface enabling the subscription of an Internet of Things device which does not comprise a separate display. In addition, the external electronic device, according to the present disclosure, may perform, via an external server, the subscription of the Internet of Things device to an Internet of Things service provider. A method and electronic device are disclosed herein. The electronic device includes a display, a communication unit, a processor and a memory storing instructions. The process executes the instructions to implement the method, including establishing wireless communication with one or more IoT devices, displaying a user interface for managing IoT devices, receiving a user input selecting a group of IoT devices, transmitting first information including user account data to an external server, transmitting second information to another device, the first information also indicating a selected group of IoT devices, and the second information causing the other device to communicatively connect with the first external server.

An electronic device according to various embodiments of the present disclosure includes: a housing; a user interface exposed through a portion of the housing; at least one communication circuit configured to discover and connect to another electronic device wirelessly without an access point or a base station; at least one processor operatively connected with the user interface and the communication circuit; and a memory operatively connected with the processor, wherein, when being executed, the memory stores instructions that cause the processor to transmit a plurality of first beacon signals for wireless connection by using the communication circuit during first time periods, to detect at least one second beacon signal for wireless connection, transmitted from an external device, by using the communication circuit, during one period of second time periods which are different from the first time periods, to receive multimedia data from an external server after detecting the at least one second beacon signal, and to output at least one of an audio, an image, or a video based at least in part on the multimedia data.
