Abstract:
A backlight unit includes a power supply converter including a primary winding connected to an input power supply voltage, and a secondary winding which is connected to an output node and outputs a light emitting diode drive voltage to the output node in response to a mode signal and a switching control signal; and a light emitting diode string connected to the output node of the power supply converter, where the power supply converter serially connects a boosting winding to the secondary winding and the output node and when the mode signal represents a three dimensional image display mode, and outputs a boosted light emitting diode drive voltage to the output node through the boosting winding.
Abstract:
Provided is a display device. According to one embodiment, the display device includes: a backlight unit with a plurality of light emitting strings including at least one light emitting diode; and a display panel displaying an image using light outputted from the backlight unit, wherein the backlight unit includes: a light source unit including the plurality of light emitting strings and a plurality of photo transistors controlling the plurality of light emitting strings; a DC-DC converter outputting the driving voltage to the light source unit; and a driving control unit applying activated gate voltages to turn on the plurality of photo transistors and detecting driving time differences between an output time for outputting the driving voltage and applying times for applying the gate voltages.
Abstract:
According to an exemplary embodiment, a display device includes a backlight unit and a display panel. The backlight unit comprises a single light emitting diode string with a plurality of light emitting diodes that are connected to each other in series and configured to emit light. The backlight unit also comprises a detector configured to generate a first voltage and a second voltage with respect to an output voltage for driving the single light emitting diode string, sample the first voltage at a predetermined time interval to generate a sample voltage, and compare a level of the sample voltage with a level of the second voltage to generate a compared result. The display panel is configured to receive light from the backlight unit to display an image. The compared result determines whether the output voltage is applied to the light emitting diode string.
