Abstract:
A display apparatus includes a backlight unit including a first light source emitting a first light having at least two peak wavelengths and a second light source emitting a second light having a peak wavelength different from the two peak wavelengths, and a display panel receiving the first and second lights to display an image corresponding to an input image data, and a light source driver which analyzes a color information of predetermined dimming areas on the basis of the input image data and controls a contribution of the first and second light sources with respect to a target brightness of each of the predetermined dimming areas in accordance of the color information.
Abstract:
A display apparatus with at least two light guide plates, each including a light incident surface and a light exiting surface, the light guide plates being spaced apart from each other so as to form a gap therebetween. The display apparatus also has a light source disposed adjacent to at least one side portion of the light guide plates to emit light to the light incident surface, a display panel positioned to receive light from the light exiting surfaces to facilitate display of an image, and a diffusion member. The diffusion member covers the gap, so as to diffuse light directed toward the display panel.
Abstract:
A display device includes a display module and a protective member that accommodates the display module. The protective member includes a first curved-line part extending in a horizontal direction and curved to have a concave surface on the top, a second curved-line part spaced apart from the first curved-line part to face the first curved-line part, formed below the first curved-line part, extending in the horizontal direction, and have a concave surface on the bottom, and connection parts that connect the first curved-line part and the second curved-line part to define an opening portion through which the portion of a display area is exposed. The display area comprises a display part exposed through the opening portion to display the effective image, a first peripheral part overlapped with the first curved-line part, and a second peripheral part overlapped with the second curved-line part.
Abstract:
A plurality of gray-scale values is extracted from image signals corresponding to a dimming area to calculate a mean value of the gray-scale values, and at least one of a variance, a standard deviation, a kurtosis, a skewness, a central moment, and an image moment is calculated using the mean value. Then, a representative gray-scale value corresponding to the dimming area is determined using the calculated values, and a dimming function for the light sources included in the dimming area is determined based on the representative gray-scale value. Then, the light sources included in the dimming area are driven based on the dimming function.

Abstract:
A backlight assembly includes a light emitting unit, a reflective sheet, and a bottom cover. The light-emitting unit includes a light source emitting light and an optical system. The optical system is spaced apart from the light source in a direction in which the light emitted from the light emitting unit initially travels. The optical system has a curved shape that reflects a portion of the light emitted from the light source and transmits a remaining portion of the light emitted from the light source. The reflective sheet is disposed under the light-emitting unit to re-reflect the light reflected by the optical system. The bottom cover accommodates the light emitting unit and the reflective sheet. Thus, the light-spreading angle of the light-emitting unit becomes wide.
