Abstract: In an information processing apparatus, a captured image acquiring section acquires data of an image captured of a reference object while part of incident light applied thereto is being blocked. An incident light information acquiring section acquires, according to a predetermined model equation, a brightness distribution of partial incident light in each of light-blocked states on the basis of the image of the reference object, and acquires a brightness distribution of overall incident light by calculating brightness distributions of partial incident light. A target information acquiring section acquires the shape and material of a target by using the brightness distribution of overall incident light.

Abstract: A captured image obtainment unit in an image processing apparatus obtains multiple sets of polarized images that have been captured while causing image capturing states to differ. For each polarized image, a polarization degree obtainment unit obtains a degree of polarization for an image of a target object. An image selection unit in a material information estimation unit, on the basis of the degree of polarization or additional information, selects an input image and a type thereof. An algorithm switching unit, on the basis of the degree of polarization or additional information, switches an algorithm used in material information estimation. An estimation unit uses the input image to estimate material information using the algorithm that was switched to. An output data generation unit generates an image using the material information and outputs the image to a display apparatus.

Abstract: An imaging device includes a filter, imaging elements, and an image processing section. The filter has a plurality of regions transmitting different light components. The imaging elements detect a luminance distribution of polarization components in a plurality of directions of light transmitted by the filter. The image processing section analyzes the detected luminance distribution based on correlation between the components, thereby generating a plurality of items of information about a subject.

Abstract: A captured image acquisition section of an information processing apparatus acquires polarization image data including polarization information in a plurality of azimuths. An imaging apparatus information acquisition section acquires information regarding a position and posture of an imaging apparatus. A viewpoint control section of a subject information acquisition section controls a plurality of viewpoints from which polarization images are captured. A point-of-interest information acquisition section sets a pixel of interest having a degree of polarization equal to or higher than a threshold in a polarization image of a first viewpoint, identifies a pixel representing the same point of interest in a polarization image of a second viewpoint, and then obtains a line of intersection between incident planes acquired for the respective viewpoints as a normal vector. An output data generation section generates output data based on results thereof and outputs the data.
