Abstract: A luminaire comprising: at least one light source for emitting light to illuminate an environment; an optical sensor comprising an array of photodetectors, the sensor configured to output image data indicative of the intensity of light incident on the photodetectors; and a controller arranged to receive the image data, the controller comprising: a presence detection module configured to process the image data to detect whether a being is present in said environment, and control the light emitted by the light source(s) responsive to said detection; a light sensing module configured to process the image data to determine a light level in said environment and control the light emitted by the light source(s) based on said light level; and a commissioning module configured to control the controller to operate in a commissioning mode based on the image data; and configure the luminaire in accordance with a commissioning command received whilst the controller is operating in the commissioning mode.

Abstract: A control system for a stadium lighting system comprising a plurality of luminaires installed within the stadium to illuminate a pitch within the stadium in accordance with a light plan containing aiming information for each luminaire is disclosed. The control system comprises a data storage device storing the light plan and a controller communicatively coupled to the data storage device, the controller being responsive to object tracking information for an object travelling across the pitch. The controller is adapted to determine a direction of travel of the object from the object tracking information; evaluate the aiming information for each luminaire to identify if at least one luminaire is arranged to generate a luminous output in an aiming direction coinciding with said direction of travel; and generate a dimming level adjustment signal for the at least one identified luminaire to reduce the intensity of said luminous output. A stadium lighting system including such a control system, a method of controlling such a stadium lighting system and a computer program product for implement such a method are also disclosed.

Abstract: Disclosed is an illumination system (100) and method (600) for generating a predefined illumination pattern on an area (10). The system comprises a plurality of luminaires (110), each luminaire having an orientation adjustment mechanism and being arranged to generate a contribution (210, 210′) to said illumination pattern on a part of said area; a plurality of cameras (120), each camera associated with one of said luminaires for capturing an image of an illuminated part of said area including the contribution generated by said associated luminaire; and a control unit (130) adapted to facilitate the generation of the predefined illumination pattern by evaluating one of said images to determine a deviation from the predefined illumination pattern for the illuminated part of said area captured in said image; selecting a luminaire from said plurality of luminaires from information contained in a light plan and generating an orientation adjustment signal for the selected luminaire based on the determined deviation.

Abstract: A system and method for performing free space optical communication with a plurality of streetlamp assemblies. The method includes transmitting a light beam from a first free space optical (FSO) unit of a first streetlamp assembly to a second FSO unit of a second streetlamp assembly along a transmission path. A transmission error is detected while transmitting the light beam along the transmission path. A location of one or more smart minors is obtained. An alternate transmission path is determined from the first FSO unit to the second FSO unit or a third FSO unit. The alternate transmission path includes a reflection of the light beam from the one or more smart minors. The first FSO unit is oriented with respect to the alternate transmission path. The light beam is transmitted from the first FSO unit along the alternate transmission path.
