A method is disclosed for producing a hollow body by cold spraying. A mold core is used for producing the hollow body, the mold core being prepared for the production of the hollow body by cold spraying in a suitable manner by means of an auxiliary layer. The auxiliary layer may include or consist of a metallic material and therefore forms a suitable surface to which the particles processed by cold spraying remain adhered to form the hollow body. The mold core can therefore be produced from an inexpensive material such as sand or wood, although said materials are in principle have limited suitability for depositing metals by cold spraying. The auxiliary layer can be applied to the mold core as a foil, or be produced on the mold core by cold-spraying low-melting and/or soft materials, for example.

For example, a method for producing a component comprising a superalloy may include: preheating a powder bed comprising particles of a core material coated by a ceramic layer, the core material including alloying constituents of the superalloy and building up the component layer by layer in a powder bed by melting particles with an energy beam. The powder bed may be heated to a temperature below a melting point of the core material before the particles are melted.

A method for producing a metal foam includes depositing metal-containing particles and blowing-agent-containing particles by cold spraying. A layer formed in this manner is formed from metallic particles and particles containing blowing agent, wherein the blowing agent forms the core of coated particles. The shell of said particles is likewise metallic, such that it is easier to deposit said particles together with the metallic particles. Therefore, a higher concentration of blowing agent can advantageously be produced in the layer. Greater possibilities are advantageously produced thereby to provide the porous layers with required pore profiles.

A substrate is coated by cold-gas spraying in which a particle jet is oriented at an inclination to the surface of a substrate thus forming a spraying angle. To increase the possible spraying angle compared to the known art, the surface is applied with a directional patterning, for example trenches and ridges. The orientation of this patterning has an angle of inclination in the direction of the spraying angle. As a result, the adhesion of striking particles is improved and it is possible to achieve larger spraying angles.
