Abstract: In an embodiment, an electronic device may include a fingerprint sensor, a display module including a touch sensor, and at least one processor operatively connected to the fingerprint sensor and the display module. The at least one processor may be configured to obtain a first touch input of a user to the display module through the touch sensor. The at least one processor may be configured to perform authentication for the user based on a fingerprint image and registered fingerprint information, the fingerprint image being obtained through the fingerprint sensor when the first touch input is obtained. The at least one processor may be configured to identify, based on the authentication for the user being successful, whether the fingerprint image satisfies a first condition for updating the registered fingerprint information. The at least one processor may be configured to identify whether an intensity of the first touch input is greater than or equal to a threshold intensity set for determining whether a touch input to the display module is inputted by the user's finger that is not in contact with a foreign material. The at least one processor is configured to update the registered fingerprint information using the fingerprint image based on identifying that the fingerprint image satisfies the first condition and that the intensity of the first touch input is equal to or greater than the threshold intensity.
