摘要: A method for the manufacture of a 2-aryl-3,3-bis(hydroxyaryl)phthalimidine including heating a reaction mixture comprising a phenolphthalein compound and a primary arylamine in the presence of an acid catalyst, and a heterocyclic aromatic amine co-catalyst, to form the 2-aryl-3,3-bis(hydroxyaryl) is provided. Polymers including structural units derived from the 2-aryl-3,3-bis(hydroxyaryl)phthalimidine are provided. Methods for the manufacture of a polycarbonate, including manufacturing the 2-aryl-3,3-bis(hydroxyaryl)phthalimidine, and polymerizing the 2-aryl-3,3-bis(hydroxyaryl)phthalimidine in the presence of a carbonate source are provided.

摘要: Processes are provided for preparing synthetic para-eugenol and polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymers including the synthetic para-eugenol. In an embodiment, a process for synthesizing para-eugenol can comprise: a) hydrolyzing methyl 5-allyl-3-methoxysalicylate to form 5-allyl-3-methoxysalicylic acid; b) decarboxylating the 5-allyl-3-methoxysalicylic acid to form a product comprising para-eugenol. The polysiloxane-polycarbonate copolymer prepared by the process may be isolated by, for example, anti-solvent precipitation followed by vacuum drying.

摘要: A copolycarbonate optical article comprises a polycarbonate composition including: a copolycarbonate having: 2 to 60 mol % of phthalimidine carbonate units, 2 to 90 mol % of high heat carbonate units, and optionally 2 to 60 mol % of bisphenol A carbonate units. The copolycarbonate has less than 100 ppm of each of phthalimidine, high heat bisphenol, and bisphenol A monomers, and less than 5 ppm of various ions, and is prepared from monomers each having a purity of at least 99.6%. The polycarbonate composition has a glass transition temperature of 200° C. to and a yellowness index of less than 30.
