Abstract: A process of purifying acetic acid is provided. The process includes feeding a stream of acetic acid into a distillation column and distilling acetic acid in the presence of an oxidizing agent in the distillation column, to oxidize oxidizable impurities in the acetic acid, wherein the oxidizing agent is an oxidant capable of cleaving C═C bonds. The process further includes removing a distilled acetic acid stream from the distillation column. Further processes for purifying acetic acid and systems for purifying acetic acid are also provided.

Abstract: A process of purifying acetic acid is provided. The process includes feeding a feed stream comprising acetic acid into a bottom half of a distillation column and distilling the acetic acid in the presence of a homogeneous oxidizing agent in the distillation column, to oxidize oxidizable impurities in the acetic acid, wherein the homogeneous oxidizing agent is capable of cleaving C═C bonds. Abstract: The disclosure provides a catalyst reaction mixture including a ligand having a backbone with at least one phosphorus atom and at least one nitrogen atom, a chromium compound, and a solvent mixture including decalin and at least one additional solvent, wherein the solvent mixture comprises decalin in an amount of less than 20 wt. % and, optionally, perhydroindane in an amount of 50 wt. % or less, based on the total weight of the solvent mixture. A method of forming a linear alpha olefin through ethylene oligomerization is also provided, the method including contacting ethylene gas with a reaction mixture in a reactor, the reaction mixture including the catalyst reaction mixture of the disclosure; and withdrawing a product stream including at least one linear alpha olefin, such as 1-butene, 1-hexene, or 1-octene, from the reactor.

Abstract: A method for preparing a homogenous catalyst for the production of linear alpha olefins includes: preparing a first pre-catalyst solution comprising a modifier and an organoaluminum compound in a first solvent wherein the first pre-catalyst solution is reacted and stored in a first vessel for a period of time of 1 hour to 90 days; preparing a second pre-catalyst solution comprising a second solvent, a ligand, and a chromium containing compound, wherein the second pre-catalyst solution is stored in a second vessel for a period of time of 1 hour to 90 days; and after a period of time, adding the first pre-catalyst solution to a catalyst pre-formation unit; after the same period of time, adding the second pre-catalyst solution to the catalyst pre-formation unit; forming a homogenous catalyst by mixing the first pre-catalyst solution and the second pre-catalyst solution; adding the homogeneous catalyst to a reaction vessel, wherein the reaction vessel comprises an alpha olefin; and forming the linear alpha olefin by mixing the homogeneous catalyst and the homogenous catalyst.
