Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for recognizing handwritten characters drawn on a paper form using a digital pen that records stroke coordinates corresponding to respective pen strokes. In one embodiment, a field on the paper form is assigned a lexical inference level. For example, the field may be assigned a word level, a word prefix level, and/or a word stem level. The assigned lexical inference level is used to recognize one or more stroke coordinates corresponding to pen strokes written in the field. Recognized characters are then used to create or modify an inference lexicon used to perform handwriting recognition for the entire field. In one embodiment, the inference lexicon is used for handwriting recognition in the same field on subsequently processed forms.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for correcting digital pen strokes written on a paper form using a digital pen. In one embodiment, a stroke collection file includes sets of coordinates corresponding to respective pen strokes written on the paper form including a mistake stroke that a user of the pen desires to correct and a removal stroke written through the mistake stroke using the digital pen. In one embodiment, the removal stroke includes a horizontal zigzag pattern having at least one horizontal extend further to the left and further to the right of the mistake stroke. In one embodiment, coordinates corresponding to the mistake stroke and the removal stroke are deleted from the stroke collection file. The stroke collection file may also include coordinates for a third pen stroke intended to replace the mistake stroke. One embodiment includes rendering an image of the paper form and the third pen stroke.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein are systems and methods that may be utilized to determine parking zone time limit violations, and which may also be utilized to issue parking citations. A system according to the present disclosure may incorporate a digital pen, and mobile communication device, and one or more paper forms. When a chalking form is used, the system creates an electronic chalking record, indicating that a particular vehicle was parked in a location at a specific time. The electronic chalking record may be stored in a chalking database. Later, the database may be queried to determine whether a citation for a parking zone time limit violation should be issued.

Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for selecting a user-identified option from among a group of mutually exclusive options. In one embodiment a user marks the user-identified option on a paper form using a digital pen. A stroke collection file includes data corresponding to a set of digital pen strokes. A system determines a subset of the digital pen strokes that are associated with the group of mutually exclusive options. A last pen stroke in the subset made by the user is determined to be the pen stroke intended by the user for selecting among the group of mutually exclusive options.

Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for updating digital pen strokes written on a paper form using a digital pen. A user may write on a paper form using a digital pen that both marks the form and electronically records the marks in relation to various form fields. Thus, user selections made using the paper form and the digital pen may be automatically determined and an electronic image of the paper form may be generated that includes the user's marks. Paper forms may be identified using a series of unique dot patterns that may be repeated on a page or book level. A particular paper form is identified by its unique dot pattern and assigned a duration. This duration assignment is reconciled against a future digital paper form record that is processed to determine if the future record corresponds to a new form or an update to an existing form.
