    Abstract: A barrel assembly for use in a firearm that reduces the static bond due to propellant pressure between the cartridge case and the barrel chamber. The barrel assembly has a barrel with a rifled bore, and a chamber for receiving a cartridge therein. The barrel chamber having a throat portion adjacent the rifled bore, and the chamber also having a body portion for receiving the cartridge case therein. The cartridge comprising a cylindrical cartridge case, a bullet engaged within the cartridge case. The cartridge case contains a propellant producing a propellant pressure upon ignition of the propellant. A barrel sleeve configured to receive the barrel within and to positively engage the barrel. A recess is formed between the barrel and barrel sleeve, forming a propellant pressure interconnect passage. The barrel has supply ports passing from the chamber throat to the propellant pressure interconnect passage, and the release ports passing from the propellant pressure interconnect passage, and into the chamber body. Upon ignition of the propellant, the bullet is forced by propellant pressure out of the cartridge case and into the rifled bore of the barrel. The propellant pressure passes into the supply ports, into the propellant pressure interconnect passage, and into the release ports. The propellant pressure is then exerted upon the exterior of the cylindrical cartridge case. The static bond due to propellant pressure between the cartridge case and the barrel chamber is reduced and more energy is made available to cycle the firearm mechanism.

    Abstract: A barrel assembly for use in a firearm that reduces the static bond due to propellant pressure between the cartridge case and the barrel chamber. The barrel assembly has a barrel with a rifled bore, and a chamber for receiving a cartridge therein. The barrel chamber having a throat portion adjacent the rifled bore, and the chamber also having a body portion for receiving the cartridge case therein. The cartridge comprising a cylindrical cartridge case, a bullet engaged within the cartridge case. The cartridge case contains a propellant producing a propellant pressure upon ignition of the propellant. A barrel sleeve configured to receive the barrel within and to positively engage the barrel. Upon ignition of the propellant, the bullet is forced by propellant pressure out of the cartridge case and into the rifled bore of the barrel. The propellant pressure passes into the supply ports, into the propellant pressure interconnect passage, and into the release ports. The propellant pressure is then exerted upon the exterior of the cylindrical cartridge case. The static bond due to propellant pressure between the cartridge case and the barrel chamber is reduced and more energy is made available to cycle the firearm mechanism.

The barrel groove diameter being within 0.0003 inch of the nominal bullet diameter and the barrel has at least 8 rifled grooves. Each of the plurality of rifling grooves has a sidewall formed from the bore diameter to the groove diameter, wherein the sidewalls formed are substantially parallel and the depth of each of the rifling grooves is shallow. The bullet is obturated as the bullet is forced down the bore. The plurality of shallow barrel grooves forming a plurality of raised lands upon the bullet. The obturated bullet having at least 50% lands formed around the circumference of the bullet body. The buffeting effect upon the bullet in flight by a transition shock wave upon the raised bullet lands is reduced by the plurality of bullet lands and the reduced height of each of the plurality of bullet lands.

    Abstract: A scope mounting system includes a one or two-piece base and a plurality of scope support assemblies. Mating portions of the base and scope support assemblies have parallel v-notches engaged with parallel flat lands to set the position of each support assembly relative to the sighting direction of a weapon to which the base is attached. The “flat land to v-notch” interengagement guarantees that the flat portions of all v-notches will engage one another to prevent movement along the weapon's sighting direction. Each scope support assembly clamps to the base in a way that prevents movement thereof in a two-dimensional plan perpendicular to the weapon's sighting direction.
