Abstract:
A method (60) and apparatus process video in a multiple encoder system by identifying (61) those frames that were originally encoded as anchor frames in the first encoder and ensuring that the second encoder (e.g., the re-encoder) encodes (65) these identified frames as anchor frames rather than bidirectional frames or non-anchor frames. In addition, the second encoder identifies (62) those frames that were originally encoded as non-anchor frames in the first encoder and encodes (66) the non-anchor frames, such as bidirectional frames, as non-anchor frames during the second encoding process. Once the anchor frames (and non-anchor frames) are identified, the present invention also determines (63) a frame-type pattern output by the first encoder and synchronizes (64) the second encoder to the identified frame-type pattern of the first encoder, thereby ensuring optimal utilization of encoder resources. A method for determining frame type (80) based on relative spatial activity is also set forth. Moreover, methods for frame-type-synchronizing (70, 100) are disclosed as well. Moreover, a method for determining a pattern of frame types is disclosed.
Abstract:
Embodiments include processes, systems, and devices that allow a white space base station to request available frequency ranges for white space transmission in a local area. A white space finder service models a primary user device's transmission signal propagation area using terrain data associated with the local area of the primary user device. The white space finder service also determines, based on the location of the white space base station and the modeled propagation area, one or more locally available, non-interfering frequency ranges and provides them to the white space base station. The white space base station compares the provided frequency ranges to policies and selects one or more of the available frequencies that accommodate the policies. The white space base station also maps the transmission frequency ranges to virtual frequency ranges for transmission by a software-defined radio employing spectrum virtualization.

The subject matter described herein includes methods, systems, and computer program products for oversubscription of wireless media gateway resources. According to one aspect, the subject matter described herein includes a method for oversubscription of wireless media gateway resources. The method includes defining at least one per-resource oversubscription factor for wireless media gateway resources required by at least one wireless network connection. The wireless media gateway resources are provisioned for the at least one wireless network connection using the at least one per-resource oversubscription factor. Allocating the wireless media gateway resources to the at least one wireless connection network includes oversubscribing the wireless media gateway resources by an amount based on the at least one per-resource oversubscription factor to increase utilization of the wireless media gateway resources by increasing the number of wireless network connections that the wireless media gateway is capable of serving.

Further, a method and apparatus are described for gaining access to a communication medium in a contention-based network, including receiving a slot count based on a number of stations in the contention-based network, adjusting the slot count, initiating a frame transmission when the slot count reaches a predetermined value and wherein said number of stations and an address queue are adjusted to reflect a priority.
