Abstract:
An assembly is disclosed treating a moving web (1) of paper or paperboard with a web treatment substance, the assembly comprising an application chamber (P2) located in a close vicinity of the moving web (1) and facing the web (1), whereby the chamber is delineated by the web (1), the walls (12) of the coater apparatus and sealing means (18, 24, 35) adapted to operate at the web ingoing and outgoing sides of the application chamber (P2). For application of the web treatment substance, the assembly includes at least one linear nozzle array incorporating at least one nozzle (21) for spraying the web treatment substance onto the web (1). The coater apparatus is divided into chambers so that a suction chamber (P3) is located behind the application chamber (P2) as seen from the direction of the web (1) and is adapted to communicate with application chamber (P2), and a flow is established into the suction chamber (P3) and the application chamber (P2) for removing mist and accumulations of the web treatment substance in such a manner that the pressure of the application chamber (P2) is made lower than the ambient pressure and the pressure of the suction chamber (P3) lower than that of the application chamber. In the assembly, the free flow direction of substances contained in the assembly is firstly from the surroundings into the application chamber (P2) and then from the application chamber (P2) to the suction chamber (P3) and means (22) serving to establish the flow.
Abstract:
In the method for paper web transfer in a paper machine or finishing apparatus for paper, a paper web (W) is transferred in a first machine portion (A) at a first travelling speed. In a second machine portion (B) following the first one in the travel direction of the web, the tail is transferred at a travelling speed lower than the first travelling speed. In the second machine portion (B) the tail (TB) is transferred independently without a draw connection to the web (W, TA) transferred in the first machine portion (A), the travelling speed of the tail (TA) transferred in the second machine portion (B) is increased, and a draw connection is established between the tail and the web (W, TA) transferred in the first machine portion.
Abstract:
The invention concerns a method for two-sided coating of a printing-paper web with a coating paste or equivalent. In the method, the paper web is passed through the coating part of the paper machine, in which the first side of the web is coated in the first coating station of said coating part, and the coating-agent layer produced on the face of the web is dried at least partly by means of a first drying unit. The second side of the web is coated in the second coating station of the coating part, and the second coating-agent layer produced on the face of the web is dried at least partly by means of a second drying unit. The coating-agent layers are formed onto the paper web alternatively by spreading the necessary amount of coating agent by means of a coating device as a film onto the face of a film press roll, from which the coating agent is transferred in the nip between the film press roll and the back-up roll as a coating-agent layer onto the paper web, or by forming the coating-agent layer directly onto the paper web by means of a blade coating device that coats the web face while using one of the film press rolls as the back-up rolls of the blade coating devices.
Abstract:
A method and device for coating of the face of a roll in a film size press with a coating agent by a coating device including a coating doctor that extends across the machine width and is loaded against the face of a roll in the film size press. The coating doctor spreads and smooths the coating agent, which has been introduced into the coating device and applied as a film onto the roll face before the coating doctor in the direction of rotation of the roll. To prevent the formation of streaks in the coating-agent film, in particular of streaks resulting from cavitation, adhesion of coating agent from the coating-agent film to the trailing side of the coating doctor is prevented by keeping the trailing side of the coating doctor moist or wet. Adhering of coating agent to the trailing edge of the coating blade is prevented by feeding a moistening medium as a constant flow to the area of the trailing edge. The moistening medium is introduced into the area of the trailing edge of the coating blade by spraying or atomizing.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for dispensing coating material on a moving substrate, such as a paper or cardboard web or the surface of a roll or the like, wherein the coating material is introduced into the coating apparatus before a coating nip and applied to the substrate through a slit of the coating apparatus directly onto the surface of the moving substrate. The coating nip and slit of the coating apparatus are formed so that a coating material smoothing member of the coating apparatus is directly supported against the moving substrate in a manner such that the free flow aperture of the slit at the coating nip is confined by the moving substrate and the surface of the smoothing member.
Abstract:
The apparatus has a feed apparatus (10) and an evening-out apparatus (100) placed underneath the feed apparatus. The feed apparatus (10) has a feed chamber (12) with an inlet opening (13a), an outlet opening (13b), and a nozzle plate (18) with holes (19) and communicating with the outlet opening (13b) of the feed chamber. The evening-out apparatus (100) has at least one inclined surface (110) which forms a downwards sloping flow path (L1) for the treating agent. Jets discharge from the feed chamber (12) outlet opening (13b) through the nozzle plate (18) holes (19) to form a first treating agent flow (F1). One inclined surface (110) of the evening-out apparatus (100) receives the first treating agent flow (F1) and a second treating agent flow (F2) formed into an even laminar treating agent flow on the flow path (L1) of the evening-out apparatus (100) is passed onto a moving surface (200).

Abstract:
Method and assembly for supporting a web (1) during the postprocessing of a web of paper or board, in which method the web is passed from a preceding device to at least one next downstream located web treatment device (4) wherein to at least one side of the web (1) is applied a treatment agent causing wetting of said side of said web, and the web (1) exiting said web treatment device is passed to at least one dryer means (8). The web (1) is contactingly supported in a continuous and unbroken manner at least from said web treatment device (4) to said dryer means (8). Advantageously, the web (1) is dried by means of at least one dryer (3) before taking the web to the web treatment device (4), and the web is contactingly supported in a continuous and unbroken manner at least from said dryer means (3) preceding said web treatment device (4) to said dryer means (8) located downstream next to said web treatment device.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a coating device for coating, e.g. a size-press roll, paper or board or of an equivalent moving base. The coating device comprises a revolving coating bar which rests against a moving base. The coating bar extends across the machine width and is supported in a cradle substantially over its entire length. The coating bar spreads and smoothes the coating agent onto the moving base which coating agent is introduced into the coating device in the running direction of the moving base before the coating bar. The coating bar in accordance with the invention is a smooth bar of large diameter arranged against the moving base so that the profile of coating quantity can be controlled.
