    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A user equipment (UE) may communicate with a network entity using one or more directional beams. The UE may detect a beam failure associated with at least one of the one or more directional beams, and the UE may calculate a duration between a detected beam failure and a subsequent random access occasion. The UE may transmit a beam failure recovery (BFR) message indicating the detected beam failure to the network entity or to a second UE based on whether the calculated duration satisfies a threshold duration. For example, the UE may transmit the BFR message to the second UE when the calculated duration is greater than or equal to the threshold duration. Alternatively, the UE may transmit the BFR message to the network entity when the calculated duration is less than the threshold duration.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. The network may configure a set of cells including one or more active cells and one or more deactivated cell for a user equipment (UE). The network may indicate a triggering condition and communication resources for the UE to transmit a sounding reference signal (SRS) to the deactivated cell. Based on identifying that the triggering condition has been satisfied, the UE may transmit the SRS to the deactivated cell using the indicated communication resource. The network may decode the SRS and identify updated timing advance information. The network may indicate the updated timing advance information to the UE, and accordingly, when the deactivated cell is activated, the UE may have updated timing advance information to apply to uplink transmissions to the newly activated (previously deactivated) cell.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. Generally, a transmitting user equipment (UE) may send packets, via a sidelink channel, to a receiving UE based on a network coding configuration received from a base station. The receiving UE may decode the packet(s) according to the network coding configuration, and transmit information that indicates an efficiency of the network coding configuration for the sidelink channel to the base station and/or the transmitting UE. The base station may generate and transmit, to the receiving UE and the transmitting UE, one or more updated parameters for the network coding configuration based on the received information that indicates the efficiency of the network coding configuration for the sidelink channel. The transmitting UE may encode, and the receiving UE may decode, future sidelink packets based on the one or more updated parameters.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described in which sidelink communications between devices may be retransmitted using one or more nodes. A first user equipment (UE) may transmit a broadcast, multicast, or groupcast communication to a set of other UEs using sidelink resources. A node may monitor the communications and store the first UE transmission. UEs of the set of other UEs may transmit feedback reports to the node that indicate one or more missing packets of the first UE transmission. The node may retransmit one or more of the stored packets to the set of other UEs based on the feedback reports. In some cases, the sidelink communications may be encoded using a network coding algorithm, and the node may retransmit network coded packets based on the feedback reports, may transmit newly encoded packets based on the feedback reports, or combinations thereof.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communications are described. A network node may transmit, to a plurality of user equipment (UE), a set of network encoded packets generated using a set of packets. A UE of the plurality of UEs may receive a subset of the set of encoded packets and may decode the subset to determine a first set of decoded packets. The UE may receive a second set of decoded packets from the plurality of UEs. The UE may transmit feedback to the network node that indicates the successfully decoded packets of the first and second sets. The network node may receive the feedback and may determine a subset of the set of packets that was successfully decoded for each UE providing the feedback. The network node may transmit an updated set of network encoded packets to the plurality of UEs.

    Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices for wireless communication are described. A user equipment or a base station may use the techniques described herein to report one or more beam failures and subsequently determine the reason the beam failures have occurred (e.g., interference or noise). For example, the UE may transmit information to the base station that is related to the beam failure in addition to a beam failure indication. In some cases, the UE may indicate the reason the beam failure occurred. Because the base station may factor in the reason when selecting and indicating new beams for communicating with the UE, the likelihood that beam failure will occur again may decrease.
