A composite plastic structure is described. The composite structure includes: (a) a shaped polycarbonate article having an edge region, the edge region having an adhesion-promoting geometric feature therein; (b) a coating applied to the surface of the shaped polycarbonate article; and (c) a polymer that is injection-molded or cast over the edge region of the shaped polycarbonate article. The polymer (c) envelopes the adhesion-promoting geometric feature of the shaped polycarbonate article (a). The envelopment of the adhesion-promoting geometric feature by the polymer (c) provides a structurally firm connection between the shaped polycarbonate article (a) and the polymer (c). Also described is a method of preparing the composite structure, and composite structures according to the present invention, such as picture frames, slide frames, windows having a seal or frame, and a glazing for a motor vehicle.

This disclosure is concerned with a process for injection molding polyethylene terephthalate into colder molds, i.e., less than 120.degree. C., and still obtaining crystalline parts by incorporating an organic imide containing compound having a melting point in excess of 240.degree. C. into the composition. The presence of this additive enhances the crystallization velocity of the composition and permits the achievement of crystalline parts with optimum properties with colder molds and shorter molding cycles than are conventional for polyethylene terephthalate molding compositions.

This invention relates to polyalkylene terephthalates which crystallize rapidly, and process of making such compositions and a process of using such compositions in injection molding. The compositions comprise polyalkylene terephthalates with intrinsic viscosities in excess of about 0.4 dl/g in 1:1 phenol/tetrachloroethane at 25.degree. C. and at least about 0.5 wt. %, based on the weight of resin and additive, of an aromatic carboxylic acid ester. These compositions may be prepared by intimately mixing the ingredients, for example by extrusion. These compositions, particularly those wherein the polyester consists essentially of polyethylene terephthalate, may be injection molded with mold temperatures less than about 120.degree. C. and still retain a significant degree of crystallinity even with short mold residence times.
