Abstract: A positive electrode active material for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries according to an example embodiment of the present invention comprises a lithium transition metal composite oxide having a layered structure and containing not less than 75 mol % of Ni with respect to the total molar quantity of elements excluding Li and O. The lithium transition metal composite oxide is of secondary particles obtained by aggregation of primary particles. A compound represented by the general formula AxByOz (where 1≤x≤2, 1≤y≤5, 4≤z≤9, A is at least one element selected from among Ca and Sr, and B is at least one element selected from among W, Mo, Ti, Si, Nb, and Zr) is adhered at at least the interface between primary particles inside the secondary particles.

Abstract: The positive electrode contains a lithium-transition metal composite oxide. With respect to the lithium-transition metal composite oxide, the content of Ni is from 80% by mole to 95% by mole relative to the total number of moles of metal elements excluding Li, and the content of Mo is less than 3% by mole relative to the total number of moles of metal elements excluding Li. The negative electrode comprises a negative electrode mixture layer that contains a negative electrode active material, and a coating film that is formed on the surface of the negative electrode mixture layer, while containing Mo. The content of Mo in the negative electrode is from 0.5 ppm to 120 ppm relative to the total mass of the lithium-transition metal composite oxide in the positive electrode.
