Abstract:
The present method for machining a part includes wire electro-discharge machining the part to create a recast layer, and then removing a zinc content of the recast layer without substantially altering the remainder of the initial composition make-up of the recast layer. The final composition make-up of the recast layer is substantially identical to the initial composition make-up except for the removed zinc content.
Abstract:
A method of manufacturing a part, including providing a green body made of powder injection molding material and connected to a solid support member partially contained in the green body. The support member is engaged with a retaining fixture of a machine tool. While supporting the green body through the engagement between the support member and the retaining fixture, the green body is machined to obtain a machined green part. The machined green part is debound and sintered. A method of forming a powder injection molding part in a green state including machining a molded body using a machine tool while supporting the blank with a retaining fixture, and a machining blank having a green body and a solid support member including one locating feature of a pair of complementary locating features snuggly engageable with one another are also discussed.
Abstract:
The method can include inserting a first portion of a backing device into a fluid aperture of a first conduit component, inserting a second portion of the backing device into a fluid aperture of a second conduit component, and bringing the second conduit component adjacent the first component over the backing device, fusion welding the first conduit component to the second conduit over the backing device, and removing the backing device by circulating a fluid inside the welded conduit components. The backing device can be made of a soluble material.
Abstract:
A gas turbine engine case having a working fluid flow, includes inner and outer case portions defining an annular duct for directing the working fluid flow, and a plurality of struts positioned within the annular duct and extending between the inner and outer case portions. The struts are welded to the inner and outer case portions with a first weld along a peripheral line of the respective struts and with second weld, of fillet type, in selected locations for additionally connecting a portion of each strut to the respective inner and outer case portions.
