Abstract:
The invention relates to data transfers between devices having asynchronous clocks. A FIFO having multiple levels holds the data while en route from a sender to a receiver. The invention monitors the FIFO. When all levels become full, the invention issues a FIFO_FULL signal. When all levels become empty, the invention issues a FIFO_EMPTY signal. In these signals, there are four events whose timing is important. (1) The ACTUATION of the FIFO_FULL is immediate; (2) the ACTUATION of the FIFO_EMPTY signal is immediate; (3) the DE-ACTUATION of the FIFO_FULL signal is synchronous with the clock of the computer reading the FIFO; (4) the DE-ACTUATION of the FIFO_EMPTY signal is synchronous with the clock of the computer writing to the FIFO. The invention allows throughput through the FIFO to proceed at a very high speed, even though the sender and receiver are asynchronous.
Abstract:
An improved interactive network system is provided that allows the Network Operator to control the transfer of information to and from the network end users, the system preferably using triggers or markers embedded within the programming broadcast to users via the network. As a consequence of this system, the Network Operator is able to efficiently garner revenues from third parties transacting business over the network and to control the look and feel of programming offered to network users. Additionally the system can be used as a means of limiting network access, filtering programming, providing on-screen graphics or audible signals for particular programming types or providers, bookmarking programming, profiling network users, targeting advertising, and simplifying network transactions.
Abstract:
A system and method are provided for presenting on a television, a combined display of information contained in an event database and television program video content. A set-top terminal receives as input, television program video content signals and information comprising an event database. The set-top terminal converts the information from the event database into a graphical format for display on a television with the television program video content. Updates to the event database are processed and displayed substantially in real-time. The event database may include information for televised events. The set-top terminal automatically tunes, at the viewer's request, to the event for which information is being displayed. Improved processes for combining television program video content and locally generated graphical images are also provided.
Abstract:
A method and associated apparatus for using a primary FIFO and one or more secondary FIFOs in parallel to simplify flow control and routing in packet communication operations wherein at least one FIFO (buffer) is associated with each of a plurality of receiving nodes or components within a receiving node. The present invention applies received packets simultaneously to a primary FIFO and to all associated secondary FIFOs in the receiver of a packet communications link. After receipt of a packet, the packet is removed from any secondary FIFOs which correspond to receiver nodes or components to which the packet was not routed. For all receiving nodes or components to which the packet was routed, if the packet was stored in each associated secondary FIFO without overflow, then the packet is also purged from the primary FIFO. If any secondary FIFO overflowed by storage of the received packet, then the packet is purged from the overflowed FIFO and the packet remains stored in the primary FIFO for further processing. Flow control signals are generated and applied to the transmitting source as required in accordance with the status of the primary FIFO. The secondary FIFOs are not directly relevant to flow control logic. The receiving component corresponding to each secondary FIFO locates the next packet for processing by inspecting the associated secondary FIFO as well as the primary FIFO if the secondary FIFO overflowed. These methods and apparatus simplify flow control and routing control in packetized communication receivers.
Abstract:
A below ground fiber cable management system includes a base member having corrosion-resistant walls defining a base member interior. A termination box is provided sized to be received within the interior. A box actuator moves the termination box from said interior to permit access to said box and access to the base member interior.
Abstract:
A micro device and method are provided for examining and testing a slice of a biological object, such as brain tissue. The micro device includes a body defining a chamber and a channel in communication with the chamber. A stimulation fluid flows axially along a flow path in the channel and engages a user selectable region of the slice. An array of electrodes in the chamber engages the slice and allows for the multi-channel electrical recording and stimulation of the slice at each of the electrode sites.

Abstract:
An apparatus, system and method for more accurately monitoring and determining pump failure. The apparatus and system include at least a power circuit, a current sensing circuit, alarm circuit and a controller. The controller is connectable to and receives an input from the current sensing circuit. The controller is configured to calculate a baseline operating current, current thresholds and operating conditions affecting the operation of the pump. The alarm circuit is connectable to and receives outputs from the controller, and provides alarm indications corresponding to operating conditions determined by the controller.
