    Abstract: A first wireless communication device receives a packet from a second wireless communication device, the packet having information indicating that the second wireless communication device is relinquishing control of a wireless communication medium. The first wireless communication device determines whether the packet was transmitted in a wireless network to which the first wireless communication device belongs, and determines whether a network allocation vector (NAV) timer of the first wireless communication device was most recently set in connection with a transmission from the wireless network to which the first wireless communication device belongs. When i) the packet was transmitted in the wireless network to which the first wireless communication device belongs, and ii) the NAV timer was most recently set in connection with a transmission from another wireless network to which the first wireless communication device does not belong, the NAV timer is not reset.

    Abstract: A communication device determines, in connection with a prior uplink multi-user (UL MU) communication in which the communication device participated, whether the communication device is to use one or more first channel access parameters, or one or more second channel access parameters for accessing a communication medium for a single user (SU) transmission by the communication device, where using the one or more first channel access parameters is associated with a greater probability of obtaining access to the communication medium as compared to using the one or more second channel access parameters. Depending on the determination made, the communication device uses the one or more first channel access parameters, or the one or more second channel access parameters to attempt to access the communication medium. In response to accessing the communication medium, the communication device transmits the SU transmission via the communication medium.

    Abstract: A communication device of a first wireless network determines that a first value of a first basic service set (BSS) color identifier is the same as a value of a second BSS color identifier corresponding to a neighboring second wireless network. In response, the communication device determines a second value of the first BSS color identifier. The communication device transmits one or more packets that each include i) an indication that the first BSS color identifier is changing, ii) the second value of the first BSS color identifier, and iii) a respective integer number of remaining beacon intervals corresponding to a start time when the second value of the first BSS color identifier will supersede the first value of the first BSS color identifier. Based on the start time, the communication device begins to use the second value of the first BSS color identifier with communications in the first wireless network.

    Abstract: Multiple trigger frames are generated at a first communication device to trigger an uplink orthogonal frequency multiple access (OFDMA) transmission by multiple second communication devices. The multiple trigger frames include a broadcast trigger frame that includes information to indicate transmission parameters for a first subset of the second communication devices, and one or more unicast trigger frames, each of the one or more unicast trigger frame including information to indicate transmission parameters for a particular second communication device in a second subset of the second communication devices. The broadcast trigger frame is transmitted, in a first frequency portion of a downlink OFDMA transmission, to the first subset of the second communication devices, and respective unicast trigger frames are transmitted, in respective second frequency portions of the downlink OFDMA transmission, to the second subset of the second communication devices.

    Abstract: The present disclosure describes methods and apparatuses for improved target wake time (TWT) operations in wireless networks. In some aspects, an access point transmits a trigger frame to stations of a TWT session during a TWT service period. Responsive to the trigger frame, the access point receives respective uplink frames transmitted by the stations. The access point then transmits a multi-block acknowledgment (M-BA) frame with a per association identifier traffic identifier (per AID TID) field configured to indicate whether one or more of the stations are permitted to enter a low-power state before an end of the TWT service period. By so doing, stations that are typically unable to interpret a more data field of the M-BA frame can determine based on the per AID TID if they are permitted to enter the low-power state and conserve power during a remainder of the TWT service period.

    Abstract: A client station generates a media access control (MAC) data unit (MPDU) that includes a MAC header. The MAC header is generated to include a control field that indicates an amount of data queued at the client station for transmission to an access point. The control field is generated to include i) a first subfield that specifies a scale factor, and ii) a second subfield that specifies a base value, and multiplying the specified base value by the specified scale factor indicates the amount of data queued at the client station. The client station transmits the MPDU to the access point to inform the access point of the amount of data queued at the client station for transmission to the access point.

    Abstract: The present disclosure includes systems and techniques relating to broadcast and multicast in a wireless communication system. In some implementations, an announcement frame indicating a broadcast or multicast service period to multiple second wireless devices is transmitted by a first wireless device. The announcement frame indicates (i) an end time of the broadcast or multicast service period and (ii) an order of a sequence of frames to be directed to the multiple second wireless devices. Each of the sequence of frames is transmitted at the first wireless device using a directional antenna pattern to a respective one of the multiple second wireless devices, according to the order of the sequence of frames indicated in the announcement frame. An acknowledgement frame in response to the each of the sequence of frames is received at the first wireless device from the respective one of the multiple second wireless devices.

    Abstract: An access point (AP) transmits a request-to-send (RTS) frame to a plurality of client stations. The RTS frame indicates that the plurality of client stations are requested to simultaneously transmit respective clear-to-send (CTS) frames to the AP. The AP receives at least some of the respective CTS frames from at least some of the plurality of client stations, including receiving a first CTS frame from a first client station, and receiving a second CTS frame from a second client station. The first CTS frame and the second CTS frame both span a first sub-channel, and are received simultaneously by the AP. The AP determines that the first sub-channel is available for communication with one or more client stations based on the reception of the first CTS frame and the second CTS frame.
