The present invention relates to the preparation of a coffee beverage powder useful for the preparation of coffee beverages such as e.g. cappuccino, café latte, café macchiato, café au lait. The method comprises the preparation of an aqueous composition comprising coffee solids and protein and/or fat, adding aroma obtained from coffee to the composition and drying the composition to produce a coffee beverage powder. The coffee beverage powder has improved aroma and/or characteristics.

A capsule has an inlet face C formed by a circular section and a bulge section extending from the circular section so that the inlet face C is not symmetric in rotation. The capsule further has an optically readable code on a side wall of a cup-shaped body of the capsule opposite the bulge section. A beverage production machine has a capsule holder for holding the capsule in the beverage production machine so that the optically readable code can be read by a code reader. Liquid can be supplied to the capsule to produce a nutritional product. The optically readable code and the code reader can be prevented from being contaminated with liquid, vapor, dirt or the like. The beverage production machine can perform an automatic detection of the capsule type and a corresponding automatic setting of preparation parameters.

The present invention provides a filter unit 10 for a capsule for preparing a beverage and/or nutritional product. The filter unit is designed to avoid clogging. The filter unit therefore comprises a second filter 50, which is provided upstream a first filter 40 in respect to the liquid flow through the filter unit 10. The second filter 50 has a pore size to hold back large particles such as scale, bio-film or iron oxide. The present invention is able to ensure a consistent liquid flow through the filter unit. The filter unit can be used with any kind of liquid source.
