    Abstract: A tone mapping apparatus includes a dynamic tone mapping module configured to generate a first tone mapping curve based on a luminance distribution histogram of input image data and generate first image data from the input image data using the first tone mapping curve, and a processor configured to generate an RGB distribution histogram, a detail region histogram and a high-luminance region histogram based on pixel information of the first image data, generate a second tone mapping curve using the RGB distribution histogram, the detail region histogram and the high-luminance region histogram and generate output image data from the first image data using the second tone mapping curve.

    Abstract: The present invention relates to a liquid crystal display device that provides improved local dimming. The liquid crystal display device includes: a liquid crystal display panel; a backlight unit divided and driven into a plurality of blocks and supplying light to the liquid crystal display panel; a local dimming value calculator calculating a dimming value of each of the blocks in accordance with input image data; and a backlight dimming controller having a pixel corrector correcting image data on the basis of the dimming values, in which the backlight dimming controller can correct at least some of the dimming values of the blocks calculated by the local dimming value calculator.

    Abstract: Provided are a display device and an operating method thereof. The display device includes a liquid crystal display panel, a backlight unit including a plurality of light sources for supplying light to the liquid crystal display panel and driven in a state of being divided into a plurality of blocks corresponding to the number of the light sources, and a backlight dimming controller configured to calculate dimming values of the plurality of blocks. The backlight dimming controller is configured to divide each of the plurality of blocks into a plurality of unit blocks and control brightness of an output image differently for each of the unit blocks.
