The method includes handling an initial encapsulated data packet to be transmitted over an established VPN tunnel connection to a receiving device, the initial encapsulated data packet having a Layer 2 (L2) protocol header, an IP data packet and at least one framing element; removing the at least one framing element; removing the L2 protocol header; appending an alternate L2 encapsulated protocol header to the IP data packet to generate a modified encapsulated data packet, wherein the alternate header contains information of the IP data packet; and sending the modified encapsulated data packet to the receiving device, wherein the alternate encapsulated protocol header allows the receiving device to handle the IP data packet using less computational resources in comparison to receiving the initial encapsulated data packet.

An SMP computer system has an apparatus and method for recalibrating a self-timed, source-synchronous, pipelined interface while the computer system is running. The apparatus allows for quiescing the interface (ie. idling the processors to allow for no data transfers), raising fences (blocking interfaces), allowing for a quick clock centering recalibration step, and then unfencing and unquiescing to allow for the use of the interface again. The recalibration allows for compensating for drift over time on the interface to compensate for temperature, voltage, cycle time, and end-of-life degradation without bringing down and restarting the system.

The invention provides a process for the leaching of a laterite ore, concentrate, tailings or waste rock for the recovery of value metals, at least one value metal being nickel. The laterite ore or concentrate is subjected to a leaching step with a lixiviant comprising hydrochloric acid to leach nickel from the laterite ore, followed by a liquid/solids separation step. The liquid obtained is subject to solvent extraction with a dialkyl ketone, to obtain a solution rich in iron and a raffinate. Separation of iron from cobalt and nickel is obtained.
