A method of constructing a means suitable for directing or holding water is described. A depression suitable to direct, transport, or hold water, such as a water catchment or irrigation ditch is covered with cloth, any seams are fastened together, then the cloth is coated with a liquid silicone elastomeric composition curable at atmospheric conditions. The coated cloth edges are stabilized. The method yields a depression having a surface impervious to liquid water that has a long expected life due to its resistance to damaging effects such as weathering and exposure to wandering animals.

An economical method of constructing a means suitable for directing, transporting, or holding water based upon the use of an aqueous liquid silicone elastomeric emulsion to form a membrane on a depression surface which is suitable to direct, transport or hold water. The emulsion, which cures under atmospheric conditions, is sprayed on the depression surface, then dried. The construction is useful as a water harvesting structure with a long, useful life. Such structures are particularly useful in providing water for animals in arid regions.

A simplified method of waterproofing masonry walls such as basement walls subjected to water from the outer surface by coating the inner surface with an anionic silicone emulsion that dries to produce an elastomeric film is disclosed. The silicone emulsion consists essentially of an anionically stabilized hydroxyl endblocked polydiorganosiloxane, amorphous silica, and an organic tin salt, the emulsion having a pH of 9 or greater.The emulsion coating when dried provides an elastomeric film that bonds to the surface with sufficient force to resist the pressure of any water that may diffuse through the wall from the outer surface. The method of this invention provides a waterproof coating that also resists the effects of cracks in the substrate, temperature extremes, molds, fungus, or mildew, as well as possessing a long useful life.

What is described is a process for preparing a more effective catalyst for the vapor-phase reaction of 1,1,1,3-tetrachloropropane with anhydrous hydrogen fluoride to produce 3,3,3-triflurorpropene-1. The process comprises (A) mechanically mixing, in the absence of water, of (i) aluminum fluoride which has been prepared at temperatures less than about 400.degree. C. and (ii) a transition metal compound, the transition metal compound being selected from a group consisting of compounds of cobalt, chromium, iron, manganese, nickel, titanium, and vanadium; and (B) contacting the mechanical mixture with sufficient anhydrous HF to convert the transition metal compound to a transition metal fluoride. Also described is the catalyst. Additionally, a process for the preparation of 3,3,3-trifluoropropene-1 in which the catalyst is utilized is described.

Compositions of hydroxyl endblocked polydiorganosiloxanes and tetrafunctional ethoxy-ketoximo silane mixtures containing tetraketoximosilane, monoethoxytriketoximosilane, diethoxydiketoximosilane, and triethoxymonoketoximosilane provide one package room temperature compositions. Exposing these compositions to moisture results in a rapid cure without the use of a curing catalyst.
