    摘要: An annular cross-sectioned clutch assembly for connecting a tool such as a paint gun to the end of a robotic arm is provided. A diaphragm-mounting plate connects on an outer side to the end of the robotic arm. An annular diaphragm is mounted to the diaphragm-mounting plate. The diaphragm has an inner surface, with the inner surface forming a pressure tight chamber with the diaphragm-mounting plate for connection to a programable source of air pressure. A clutch plate has an annular diaphragm-engagement surface engaged with a central portion of the diaphragm. Springs between the clutch plate and the diaphragm-mounting plate bias the clutch plate away from the diaphragm-mounting plate in conjunction with air pressure in the chamber. Structure is provided to establish a normal position of the clutch assembly. Additional structure is provided to establish physical limits of travel of the clutch plate with respect to the diaphragm-mounting plate. Electrical devices generate an electrical signal in response to movement of the clutch plate away from the normal position.

    摘要: A breakaway clutch for robot end-of-arm tooling includes a housing and movable member constrained within the housing for movement along a central axis. A tool connecting member is linked to the movable member by way of a capsule-shaped link. The tool connecting member is located such that a movable member is in the normal position and the tool connecting member is movable in all directions except in the direction of a front housing wall. The movable member is biased toward the normal position, with the biasing being adjustable to vary the bias and thereby vary the sensitivity of the clutch to forces applied to the movable member by way of the tool connecting member. Movement of the movable member away from the normal position is sensed to send an alarm signal to the robot controller.

The housing includes a front plate to which a tool head may be removably coupled. The motor pack also includes tool control circuitry enclosed within the housing and electrically coupled to the electric motor to control operation thereof.

    摘要: In an automated welding machine, where a flow of liquid coolant is supplied to welding components on the machine from a source of coolant and then returned to the source of coolant, a safety system is provided that shuts down the flow of coolant in the event of a fault. Faults are detected by a supply sensor and a return sensor for measuring the flow rates of coolant in the supply and return lines. A microprocessor is adapted to compare the supply flow rate and return flow rate and detect differences between the two rates. The difference between the detected rates as compared to a leak threshold value, and the microprocessor is adapted to generate a valve shutoff signal in the event the detected difference in flow rates exceeds the leak threshold value. A value in the supply coolant line is responsive to the valve shutoff signal to shutoff flow of coolant in response thereto.

    摘要: The invention provides an "on the fly" adjustable clutch for use with robot end-of-arm tooling that senses movement of a tool attached to the clutch and can send a signal to shut down the robot when an overload is encountered. The clutch includes a piston capable of lateral movement within a chamber that is slidably mounted on a pin and a tool plate. The pin extends beyond the clutch housing, and the tool plate is pivotally mounted on the pin. Spring act to bias the piston away from the tool plate such that the tool plate is held somewhat rigidly in relation to the clutch housing by the springs. In a preferred embodiment, pressurized air may be introduced into the piston chamber on either side of the piston to increase or decrease the bias of the springs. Thus, the clutch is capable of varying sensitivities with the biasing being adjustable under program control. Also included on the clutch are locating studs and proximity sensors. The locating means act to position the tool plate in a normal position in relation to the clutch housing. The proximity sensors detect movement of the tool plate in relation to the housing.
