Abstract: A method for displaying guidance information during an image-guided surgical procedure comprises receiving, by one or more hardware processors, data from a tracking system associated with an elongate device comprising a flexible body and calculating, by the one or more hardware processors, at least one condition along a length of the flexible body based on the data. The method further comprises determining, by the one or more hardware processors, supplemental guidance information based on the at least one condition and augmenting, by the one or more hardware processors, one or more images with the supplemental guidance information to produce one or more augmented images. The method further comprises displaying the one or more augmented images on a display device at a surgeon console.

Abstract: A medical imaging system comprises a teleoperated assembly including a medical instrument, a first imaging instrument, a second imaging instrument, a tracking fixture, and a processor. The first imaging instrument generates a first image of a field of view of the first imaging instrument and the second imaging instrument generates a second image. The tracking fixture is engageable along at least a portion of the second imaging instrument. The tracking fixture includes one or more features. The medical instrument is attachable to an attachment feature of the tracking fixture to maintain a known configuration of the medical instrument relative to the second imaging instrument. The processor is configured to determine a pose of the tracking fixture based on the one or more features of the tracking fixture and the first image.

Abstract: A system and method of monitoring a procedure includes a medical device. The medical device includes an elongate device including a flexible body, a tracking system disposed along at least a portion of the flexible body, and one or more processors communicatively coupled to the tracking system. The one or more processors are configured to receive a route to a target location in an anatomy, determine one or more features of the route based on a first anatomical representation, generate a reduced anatomical representation based on the one or more features of the route, receive real-time position information from the tracking system, associate the real-time position information to the reduced anatomical representation, and dynamically display the reduced anatomical representation with the associated real-time position information.

Abstract: A system comprises a user control system including an input control device for controlling motion of a virtual medical instrument through a virtual passageway. The system further comprises a display for displaying a graphical user interface and a plurality of training modules. The graphical user interface includes a representation of the virtual medical instrument and a representation of the virtual passageway. The system further comprises a non-transitory, computer-readable storage medium that stores a plurality of instructions executable by one or more computer processors. The instructions for performing operations comprise navigating the virtual medical instrument through the virtual passageway based on commands received from the user control system and evaluating one or more performance metrics for tracking the navigation of the virtual medical instrument through the virtual passageway.

Abstract: Systems and methods for integrated real-time visualization while performing a minimally invasive procedure within anatomic passageways include a flexible catheter having one or more first lumens and a first positioning system, an imaging probe having one or more imaging elements, and a scaling device. In souse embodiments, the scaling device includes a plurality of second lumens and the flexible catheter and the imaging probe are each optionally deployed through a respective one of the second lumens. In some embodiments, the one or more imaging elements include one or more ultrasound transducers. In some embodiments, the scaling device seals the anatomic passageways at a scaling location using one or more balloons, and the anatomic passageways distal to the sealing location are collapsed. In some embodiments, the first positioning system includes one or more position sensors. In some embodiments, the procedure is performed after the passageways are collapsed.

Abstract: An optical force sensor along with an optical processing apparatus and method are disclosed. The optical force sensor includes an optical fiber, a core included in the optical fiber, an instrument including the optical fiber, the instrument having a distal region, and a tubular structure encasing an end of the optical fiber and secured to the first conduit at the distal region of the instrument. When an optical interferometric system is coupled to the optical fiber, it processes reflected light from a portion of the core included within the tubular structure that does not include Bragg gratings to produce a measurement of a force present at the distal region of the instrument.

Abstract: A method performed by a computing system comprises receiving a fluoroscopic image of a patient anatomy while a portion of a medical instrument is positioned within the patient anatomy. The fluoroscopic image has a fluoroscopic frame of reference. The portion has a sensed position in an anatomic model frame of reference. The method further comprises identifying the portion in the fluoroscopic image and identifying an extracted position of the portion in the fluoroscopic frame of reference using the identified portion in the fluoroscopic image. The method further comprises registering the fluoroscopic frame of reference to the anatomic model frame of reference based on the sensed position of the portion and the extracted position of the portion.
