    摘要: An apparatus such as a DC-DC power converter including a switch, an ON-time controller, and a compensator operates in a constant ON-time control mode. Over multiple control cycles, the ON-time controller controls an ON-time duration of activating the switch and generation of an output voltage to power a dynamic load. The compensator, in communication with the ON-time controller, adjusts the ON-time duration of activating the switch depending on a magnitude of output current delivered by the output voltage to the dynamic load. For example, during heavier load conditions when the dynamic load consumes a higher amount of current, and in which internal resistive losses of the power supply become more substantial, the compensator increases the ON-time duration of activating the switch, resulting in operation of the power supply and switch closer to a desired frequency setpoint.

During operation, the reference voltage generator circuit compares a magnitude of a received output voltage feedback signal to a received reference voltage. Based on the comparison, the reference voltage generator circuit produces a varying reference voltage and outputs it to the ramp generator circuit. As its name suggests, a magnitude of the varying reference voltage varies over time. The ramp generator circuit produces a ramp voltage signal, a magnitude of which is offset by the varying reference voltage. To maintain an output voltage of the power supply within regulation, the control circuitry receives the varying reference voltage and controls activation of a power converter circuit to power a load based on a comparison of the ramp voltage signal and the output voltage feedback signal of the power supply.

    摘要: A power converter includes a switch, an ON-time controller, and a compensator. Over multiple control cycles, the ON-time controller controls an ON-time duration of a control signal driving the switch. Activation of the switch generates an output voltage that powers a dynamic load. The ON-time controller controls attributes such as a switching frequency and/or an ON-time duration of the control signal driving the switch to regulate the output voltage. A phase-locked loop in the compensator supplies the ON-time controller with adjustment signals that adjust the ON-time duration of activating the switch to maintain the switching frequency at a desired setpoint. Thus, if a transient load condition causes the ON-time controller to temporarily operate the switch to at a value other than the desired setpoint frequency, the phase-locked loop of the compensator causes the switching frequency to align with the desired switching frequency again over one or more control cycles.
