Abstract: To eliminate undesired interference between tracks of signals recorded on a magnetic recording medium by a multitrack magnetic recording device having adjacent heads spaced apart by predetermined distances, the marginal edge portions of the signal tracks are erased by erase heads. These are located in fixed positions relative to the record heads so that after recording, the signal tracks travel past the erase heads to remove said marginal portions. To ensure that the erasing effect is limited to the marginal edge portions each erase head is surrounded, except for the actual erasing area, by a non-magnetic medium.
