    摘要: In an in-drive erase process for erasing disk surfaces of a hard disk drive, erase spirals are written on multiple disk surfaces and at a different write frequency than that of other data patterns on the disk surfaces. The erase spirals written on a first disk surface can be used to control an erase process on a portion of the remaining disk surfaces. Erase spirals are then written on a different disk surface and can then be used to erase all data on the first disk surface. Consequently, even when every disk surface includes previously written data patterns that can potentially interfere with control of the erase process, the erase spirals so written can control the erase process with sufficient precision to thoroughly erase each disk surface.

Each write signal includes a servo signal and a bias signal, the bias signals being phase displaced periodic signals which result in the magnetic tape being magnetized alternately by the first and second write heads. This provides a sharp transition in the servo signals produced from adjoining servo tracks during read-out.

    摘要: A biasing/erasing oscillator includes a series circuit formed by an entire-width erasing head, a linear record erasing head and an inductor. The series circuit is connected in parallel with an oscillating capacitor to form an LC resonant circuit. The LC resonant circuit is connected to a base of a transistor through a direct current blocking capacitor. The transistor has an emitter is connected to a series junction point, for example, between a sound erasing head and the inductor. A collector of the transistor is supplied with a bias voltage, while the transistor base is supplied with a bias current through a bias resistor. The direct current blocking capacitor prevents the bias current from flowing into the LC resonant circuit.

    摘要: An apparatus for controlling an audio recording bias is provided for improving a signal-to-noise (S/N) ratio in a high-frequency region of a recording signal by controlling a bias when an audio signal is recorded. The apparatus includes a high-pass filter for passing only high frequency components of an input audio signal, and a bias signal generator for generating an oscillating bias signal which is inversely proportional to the level of the high-pass filtered audio signal, and is of a predetermined level in the middle- and low-frequencies of the input audio signal. In the above-described apparatus, a bias level is controlled in the high-frequency region of an input audio signal so that the saturation of the audio signal in the high-frequency region is prevented to thereby expand a frequency area of the signal being recorded. Also, the level of the recording signal is heightened compared to the conventional art, thereby improving the S/N ratio in the high-frequency region.

    摘要: A circuit for generating a bias signal and an erase signal for use in a recording apparatus having a record head for recording an input analog signal on a magnetic tape, and an erase head for erasing information from the tape. A DC erase signal is applied to the erase head in response to the erase control signal to cause the erase head to erase information. An AC bias signal is generated and is combined with the input analog signal to make a record signal. The record signal is applied to the record head in response to the record control signal to record information on the tape. A controller generates an erase control signal and as record control signal. The AC bias signal is generated by an AC bias oscillator, such as a Hartley oscillator to reduce the noise contributed in the recording system. Use of a DC source to drive the erase head reduces the cost of the circuit, while maintaining a significant increase in the signal-to-noise ratio.

The amplitudes for the binary data signals and/or of the bias signals are corrected with a control signal generated by a control unit dependent on the average peak shift, being corrected in order to achieve an optimum relationship of read output signal amplitude to minimum peak shift.

As a result, improvement of the S/N ratio and automatic adjustment of the recording current can be achieved. Further, by means of a head drive unit, the position of the level servo head is finely adjusted so that the control for optimization of the recording current is performed accurately.
