    Abstract: In some examples, an insert assembly includes an insert, a rivet, and a washer configured to position on a brake disc. The insert is configured to position within a disc slot of the brake disc. The rivet shank is configured extend through a washer hole of the washer and a rivet slot of the insert to secure the insert to the brake disc. The washer is configured to be positioned between the insert and a rivet head of the rivet when the rivet shank extends into the brake disc. The rivet slot is configured to allow for the motion of the insert relative to the rivet in the tangential direction when torque is imparted through the disc slot via the insert. In some examples, the rivet is a solid rivet. In some examples, the rivet head is an orbitally riveted head fabricated using an orbital riveting tool.

    Abstract: In some examples, a brake assembly includes a torque tube supporting a plurality of splines including a first spline and a second spline. The first spline has a first stiffness and the second spline has a second stiffness greater than the first stiffness. The braking system is configured such that, during a braking event and/or other relative motion between the stator disc and the torque tube, the first spline contacts the stator disc prior to the second spline, such that the first spline deflects and/or otherwise deforms before the stator contacts the second spline.

The structural core includes two core surfaces and a plurality of pockets extending between the core surfaces. Each friction pad includes a pad surface and a friction surface opposite the pad surface. Each pad surface includes a planar pad surface configured to contact the core surface and a plurality of bosses extending from the first planar pad surface and including a bore. Each planar pad surface is at least about 50% of a surface area of the respective first and second pad surfaces. The plurality of bosses engages with the plurality of pockets to position the respective first and second friction pads relative to the structural core. The plurality of elongated fasteners passes through bores of corresponding bosses of friction pads to fasten the friction pads to the structural core.

The brake system includes a disc stack having a rotor disc rotationally coupled to the wheel and a stator disc, wherein the wheel is configured to rotate relative to the stator disc. The brake system includes an actuator configured to compress the disc stack. The brake system is configured to exert a reaction force on the disc stack when the actuator compresses the disc stack. The assembly includes a mechanical stop configured to encounter the brake system, wherein the mechanical stop is configured to limit a linear displacement between the actuator and the disc stack.
