Abstract: A method includes receiving an optical signal from an external network at a first optical terminal affixed to an external side of a substantially transparent surface of a building. The first optical terminal includes a first fiber port configured to receive a first optical fiber and an output lens optically coupled to the first fiber port. The first fiber port is configured to route the optical signal from the external network to first optical terminal. The method also includes directing the optical signal through an optical link extending through the substantially transparent surface to a second optical terminal affixed to an interior side of the substantially transparent surface. The second optical terminal includes an input lens and a second fiber port optically coupled to the input lens. The input lens is configured to receive the optical signal from the first optical terminal through the optical link.

Abstract: A method includes receiving packets of data from an external network and receiving location information over a wireless communication link from a wireless communication device located inside a building. The location information indicates a relative location of the wireless communication device. The method also includes executing beam forming with the wireless communication device based on the received location information to form a communication beam directed toward the wireless communication device. The method also includes transmitting the communication beam over the wireless communication link from the external network interface unit to the wireless communication device, the communication beam containing the data packets.

Abstract: A gesture detection system uses two radar tones to concurrently detect absolute distance and relative movement of a target object. A radar-based detection device alternates transmitting a first radar tone and a second radar tone via a radar-emitting device, and then captures a first return signal and a second return signal that are generated by the first radar tone and second radar tone reflecting off the target object. The radar-based detection device demodulates the return signals into a first set of quadrature signals and a second set of quadrature signals and, in some cases, generates a first set of digital samples and second set of digital samples from the respective quadrature signals. Various aspects process the first set of digital samples and second set of digital samples to concurrently identify absolute distance and relative movement and, at times, determine an in-the-air gesture performed by the target object.
