    Abstract: This document describes techniques and devices for handling an attempt to resume a wireless connection using a base station that supports a different core-network type. While in a current resource control state, such as an inactive state 332, a user equipment (UE) 111 or 112 selects a base station 124 with a different core-network type than a previously selected base station 122 or 121. In some cases, this selected base station 124 does not support the current resource control state or does not enable the UE 111 or 112 to transition to a different resource control state, such as a connected state 330. Consequently, if the UE 111 or 112 attempts to perform a procedure that would result in the UE 111 or 112 transitioning to the unsupported resource control state, the procedure may fail and consequently waste network resources or delay communications with the UE 111 or 112.

    Abstract: A method for avoiding undesired message transmissions from a user device to a RAN is implemented in a user device. The method includes receiving (202 or 302), from the RAN, a first value of the barring factor, and determining (206 and 210 or 306 and 310), based on a first probability corresponding to the first value, that access barring applies to a message transmission. The method also includes suspending (214 or 314) the message transmission while running a first timer (216 or 316) and, after the first timer expires or stops, either (1) if the first value does not correspond to a maximum probability of the different probabilities, determining (222 or 322) that the access barring is alleviated, or (2) if the first value corresponds to the maximum probability, continuing to suspend (224 or 326) the message transmission.

    Abstract: This document describes techniques and devices for efficient handling of a resource control state change and multi-node connectivity. Instead of performing multiple radio resource control (RRC) procedures to change a resource control state of a user equipment (UE) and establish, modify, or release a connection with multi-node connectivity, the techniques described herein combine the multiple RRC procedures into a single RRC procedure that supports both a resource control state change and multi-node connectivity. In particular, a master node sends a resource control state and multi-node connectivity message that includes both state change information and multi-node connectivity information. With this single message, timing and power resources of the UE can be conserved and failures resulting from asynchronous communication of the state change information and the multi-node connectivity information can be avoided.

    Abstract: A UE activates a timer for applying access control to transmissions associated with a certain access category during an access control period, in response to a first system information message received via a radio interface and a mobile-originated access request (1702). While the timer is running, the UE receives a second message that indicates a potential transition of the UE (i) from a current state associated with a protocol for controlling radio resources to another state associated with the protocol, or (ii) from a current cell to a new cell (1704). In response to the second message, the UE continues to apply the access control to the transmissions for the access category, for a remainder of the access control period (1706).
