Abstract:
A process provides a user with context-aware information. The process is performed at a client device with one or more processors, a microphone, and memory. The memory stores one or more programs configured for execution by the one or more processors. The process receives audio fingerprints for a plurality of video programs and information that correlates each respective received audio fingerprint to a respective video program, and stores the received audio fingerprints and correlating information in memory. The process detects ambient sound using the microphone, and computes one or more sample audio fingerprints from the detected ambient sound. The process matches one of the sample audio fingerprints to a first stored audio fingerprint and uses the correlating information to identify a first video program corresponding to the matched sample audio fingerprint. The process then provides the user with information related to the first video program.
Abstract:
A method at a computing system includes: detecting a search event corresponding to a spike in search volume above a predefined threshold for a set of related queries, identifying a respective broadcast media program and a respective moment of the respective media program associated in time with the search event, generating a presentation that includes the identified media program and the identified moment associated with the search event, and in response to a request issued by a client device for media program information transmitting the presentation to the client device for display.
Abstract:
A process identifies a search query spike from queries submitted by users during a first span of time, which is less than a predefined duration. The spike corresponds to a set of queries identified as equivalent. The frequency of submitting queries from the set during the first time span exceeds the frequency of submitting queries from the set during an average span of time. The process correlates the spike to a broadcast video program by matching terms from the set of search queries to subtitle terms appearing in the video program at a first location. The first location in the video program was broadcast within a predefined time before the first span of time. The process receives notification from a user device indicating user interest in the video program. The process transmits to the user device search results corresponding to some search queries from the set of search queries.

Abstract:
Methods, systems, and media for presenting news items corresponding to media content are provided. In some implementations, the method comprises: determining a channel that is providing a television program; determining whether news content corresponding to the channel exists, wherein the determining further comprises: obtaining news documents, determining keywords associated with the news documents based on frequency, receiving captioning content corresponding to the channel, determining whether at least one of the keywords associated with the news documents is included in the captioning content, selecting a news document in response to determining that keywords associated with the news document are included in the captioning content, and obtaining one or more news items that correspond to the news document; and causing the one or more news items relating to the television program to be presented.
Abstract:
Systems, methods, and media for identifying content are provided. In some implementations, systems for identifying content are provided, the systems comprising: at least one hardware processor that: receives content having audio; generates a representation of the audio of the content; performs a first database search based on the representation; performs a second database search based on text corresponding to words that are sung or spoken in the content; responsive to determining that the first database search yielded a match and the second database search yielded a match, causes a first indication that the content contains a known performance of known content to be output; and responsive to determining that the first database search failed to yield a match and the second database search yielded a match, causes a second indication that the content contains an unknown performance of known content to be output.
Abstract:
A broadcast audience interaction and feedback system may discover and activate a recording function of a portable device of a user to record audio and/or video of media content output by a media device in proximity to the user. The audio or video data may be used to identify the content by matching audio or video fingerprints or signatures of the data recorded by the portable device with separately generated signatures or fingerprints associated with the content. Additional entities may be automatically associated with the content via capturing of metadata or closed captioning data during the content, OCR of displayed text in the content, or detection of other such entities. In some implementations, the portable device may also capture feedback from the user, including cheering, applause, and laughter, as well as explicit questions or comments, voting choices, etc. The feedback may be identified, and queries generated or additional functions performed based on the identified feedback, the identified media content, and/or one or more entities associated with the identified media content.
Abstract:
In accordance with some implementations of the disclosed subject matter, mechanisms for determining channel information are provided. In some implementations, a method for providing media guidance is provided, the method comprising: associating with a local area network; detecting at least one media device on the local area network; determining device information associated with the at least one media device on the local area network; determining, without user intervention, television provider information based on the device information; determining location information of the at least one media device; determining channel information based on the determined television provider information and the determined location information; and causing media guidance information to be presented that includes at least a portion of the determined channel information.
Abstract:
Systems, methods and devices described herein enable sharing content-synchronized ratings, related to media content playing on a first device, using one or more second devices. For example, while a television program is playing on a television, a tablet computer acquires and sends content information derived from the video stream to a server. The server identifies the television program by matching the content information to a fingerprint. Then the server system generates a set of instructions, a time-marker, and one or more content-synchronized ratings collected from other user devices. The set of instructions includes instructions for synchronizing to the time-marker, enabling sharing of one or more content-synchronized ratings, and displaying content-synchronized ratings from other users. The set of instructions and content are sent to the tablet computer for execution and display.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for providing correlated programming information for broadcast media content and streaming media content. In one implementation, a processing device receives first programming information that includes scheduling information for media content originating at a first source. The processing device correlates the first programming information with second programming information, the second programming information including scheduling information generated based on a current time for a media content item originating at a second source. The processing device provides the second programming information as correlated with the first programming information.
