    摘要: A method of manufacturing a fuel cell stack includes compressing a stack of bipolar plates with a variable applied load a feature non-deformed displacement distance, which is measured from an initial height of the stack of bipolar plates. A first applied load at a first displacement distance and a second applied load at a second displacement distance are sensed. The first displacement distance and the second displacement distance are each less than the feature non-deformed displacement distance. A best fit curve, passing through the first applied load at the first displacement distance and the second applied load at the second displacement distance, is then determined. A final displacement distance, measured from the initial height, is calculated from the best fit curve for a target applied load. The stack of bipolar plates is then compressed to the final displacement distance measured from the initial height.

The fuel cell stack assembly of the present disclosure may further include a second plurality of nominal fuel cells.

The first bipolar plate defines a first metal bead seal and a first plate embossment in fluid communication with the first metal bead seal. The second bipolar plate defines a second metal bead seal and a second plate embossment in fluid communication with the second metal bead seal. The first plate embossment and the second plate embossment are offset from one another along the length of the first and second metal bead seals. The second metal bead seal is operatively configured to abut the first metal bead seal to form a joint between the first and second bipolar plate. The gas diffusion layer may be disposed between the first bipolar plate and the second bipolar plate.

    摘要: A bipolar plate for a fuel cell includes a first plate having a first bead seal, and a second plate having a second bead seal. The first bead seal and the second bead seal are disposed opposite each other and extend along a centerline. An outer weld connects the first plate and the second plate together, and extends along an outer weld line. The outer weld line is laterally spaced an outer gap distance from an outer lateral edge of the first and second bead seals. The outer gap distance varies with a position along the centerline to control a stiffness of the bead seals. Positioning the weld line nearer the outer lateral edge increases the stiffness of the raised bead seals in low stiffness areas, whereas positioning the weld line farther from the lateral edge decreases the stiffness of the raised bead seals in high stiffness areas.

    摘要: A plate structure includes a plate having a planar portion defining a datum plane. The plate includes a raised bead seal and a tunnel protruding away from the datum plane. The raised bead seal extends along a centerline laying on the datum plane. The tunnel extends along a path laying on the datum plane. The tunnel intersects the raised bead seal. The path and the centerline intersect to form a first intersection angle and an adjacent second intersection angle on the datum plane. The first intersection angle and the second intersection angle are supplementary angles. The first intersection angle is an acute angle, and the second intersection angle is an obtuse angle. The path and the centerline are arranged to form a specific value of the first intersection angle and the second intersection angle to control a stiffness of the raised bead seal.
