    Abstract: A sliding vane pump includes a fixed housing defining inlet and outlet ports and a sliding housing defining a cylindrical cavity and configured to slide within the fixed housing. The fixed housing and the sliding housing define a gap therebetween. A rotor is configured to rotate within the cylindrical cavity and has a plurality of vanes configured to seal against an inner circumferential wall of the cylindrical cavity to define a plurality of pumping chambers. A seal is located in the gap disposed between the fixed housing and the sliding housing to split the gap into first and second compensation chambers. The first chamber is fluidly connected to a first pumping chamber of the plurality of pumping chambers and the second chamber is connected to a second pumping chamber of the plurality of pumping chambers.

    Abstract: A transmission assembly including a clutch system, an accumulator, and a controller is provided. The clutch system may include a flow source. The accumulator may be selectively in communication with the flow source via a solenoid valve. The controller may be programmed to, responsive to detection of a vehicle stop and the accumulator charged below a predetermined threshold, output a command to open the solenoid valve to rapidly charge the accumulator from the flow source. The predetermined threshold may be an accumulator pressure between 700 kPa and 900 kPa. The controller may be further programmed to, responsive to detection of the accumulator being charged to or above the predetermined threshold, output a shut down command to an engine in communication with the transmission assembly and to output a close command to the solenoid valve. The flow source may be a pump out circuit or a line pressure circuit.

    Abstract: A sliding vane pump includes a passageway that fluidly connects one or more pumping chambers to a side chamber. The passageway pressurizes the side chamber. This fluid pressure exerts a force that counteracts the force caused by pressure differences between the outlet pumping chambers and the inlet pumping chambers. At high speed, part of the side chamber is pressurized by the smallest volume outlet pumping chamber while another portion of the side chamber is pressurized by the largest volume outlet chamber. This results in a force counteracting an uncommanded displacement decrease of the pump.

    Abstract: A pressurized fluid storage system is suitable for use to rapidly engage a transmission following an engine shutdown. The system includes a reservoir, such as an accumulator, connected to a manifold by a single passageway. A pump provides pressurized fluid to the manifold while a transmission control system draws fluid from the manifold. A check valve in the single passageway passively holds fluid in the reservoir when pressure in the reservoir exceeds pressure in the manifold and allows flow into the reservoir when the manifold pressure is higher. An actively controlled actuator overrides the passive check ball to release pressurized fluid into the manifold to rapidly re-engage transmission clutches.
