    Abstract: Provided are a method and apparatus for registering a new terminal using chromatic dispersion distance estimation. The method of registering a new terminal, performed by a transport unit (TU), includes performing frame synchronization through a downstream packet received from a transport node (TN), identifying a position of a frequency of a spectral null and a number of frequencies of spectral nulls through analysis on a frequency spectrum of the received downstream packet, estimating a transmission distance of an optical fiber to the TN, based on the identified position of the frequency of the spectral null and the identified number of frequencies of spectral nulls, and determining a timing of transmitting a registration request message, based on the estimated transmission distance, where the discovery information message is received from the TN.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a method of registering a new optical network unit (ONU) to be performed by an optical line terminal (OLT). The method includes transmitting a ranging notification message to a centralized unit (CU)/distributed unit (DU) to register the new ONU, receiving scheduling information for registering the new ONU from the CU/DU in response to the ranging notification message, transmitting a serial number request message to a service region in which ONUs are present based on the received scheduling information, and when the serial number response message is received from the new ONU in response to the serial number request message, registering the new ONU that transmits a serial number request message. The transmitting of the serial number request message is performed through a multi-quiet zone of a short period.

    Abstract: Provided is a decoding method using polarization time block coding (PTBC) and a decoding device for performing the decoding method. The decoding method includes branching received symbols consecutively received according to a symbol period into two paths, delaying a first received symbol corresponding to a first path between the two paths by the symbol period in which the received symbols are received, performing a complex conjugate operation on a second received symbol corresponding to a second path between the two paths, compensating for channel distortion of the first received symbol delayed by the symbol period and the second received symbol on which the complex conjugate operation is performed, through an equalizer in the decoding device, and restoring a transmission symbol by performing phase restoration on the first received symbol and the second received symbol for which the channel distortion is compensated for, through a phase compensator in the decoding device.

    Abstract: Proposed is an apparatus and method of dynamic bandwidth allocation for a coherent optical communication having a variable modulation and coding scheme in an optical access network, wherein the method includes determining an index of a received signal quality (IRSQ) by measuring a received optical power (ROP) for downstream transmission, receiving a message of granting authority from a transport node (TN), transmitting a message of a buffer status report (BSR) to the TN in response to the message of grating authority, receiving from the TN a message of bandwidth allocation (BA) including an index of a modulation and coding scheme (IMCS), and determining a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) corresponding to the index of the modulation and coding scheme (IMCS) on the basis of the BA message.
