Abstract:
A unified messaging system that provides a multimedia mailbox. The system allows a subscriber to access stored multimedia messages, such as voicemail messages, facsimile messages, combined voice and facsimile messages and video messages, not only through a public switched telephone network using a telephone but also over a data network, such as the Internet or an intranet, using a personal computer. The system provides voicemail access over the telephone network, indicating message number, etc. with the ability to play messages to the telephone user as desired. For text type messages, such as facsimile and e-mail, the system converts the text into speech and plays the speech to the telephone user. The system allows a personal computer user to obtain the data network access using an Internet browser. The browser is used to access a home page of the system and get information about the messages stored, and is used to download (get) and play the messages at the personal computer via data streaming in the case of a voice or video messages or view the messages in the case of text type messages, such as facsimile and e-mail. The user can also perform the other typical messaging functions over the data network connection that are provided for telephone access, such as viewing a message list, saving and deleting messages, group list administration and other administration tasks.
Abstract:
The present invention is a system that uses a migration server to access voicemail of a source system through a front-end switch via a telephony interface, obtain voice messages stored on the source system and store them on a destination system via a data interface. A host processor initiates a migration based on a mailbox migration status stored in a host database and controls the switch to provide a path from the migration server to the source system. The host processor also controls call flow and initiates pass code (PIN) digit capture of a subscriber's pass code by the switch for mailboxes to be migrated. Call flow control includes determining to which system to route an arriving call based on migration status and determining whether to output a message-waiting indicator for newly stored messages. A migration server controls call tree navigation aspects of call flow during migration. Automated speech recognition is used to help capture the voice message as opposed to the voice message envelope and to capture message attribute information as well as the subscriber's greeting and voice announcement, and to assist in voicemail menu navigation.
Abstract:
A pay telephone message system is disclosed that includes a voice message system storing and forwarding to a destination telephone a voice message left by a user. Call information including the destination telephone number is routed out-of-band, that is, in a data or service request channel separate from the voice channel, over a packet concentrator network separate from the voice telephone network. During operation a message telephone call is placed to the voice message system over the existing telephone network. The call information is routed over the concentrator network as a voice message service request. The voice message system returns a token, a call identifier or service request number, corresponding to the service request to the pay telephone interface making the request and handling the pay telephone call. The interface sends the token in-band over the telephone network to the voice message system prior to allowing the pay telephone user to store a message. The token allows the voice message system to correlate the incoming voice message with the call information.
Abstract:
A system that dynamically creates a mailbox if the mailbox does not exist for a message at the time that the message is to be stored when dynamic mailbox creation is enabled. A system level process indicates that the mailbox exists and provides default subscriber information to a voice messaging application during the receipt of a message when a mailbox does not exist on the system for the recipient of the message and dynamic mailbox creation is enabled. At the time the message is to be stored the mailbox is created with the default subscriber information. The system checks for erroneous mailboxes by requesting confirmation of the recipient telephone number from the telephone system using a message waiting indication packet. This check can be performed before the mailbox is created when the mailbox address is available, while the message is being held before being stored, or it can be used to delete the mailbox after it is created. When the message is retrieved, the mailbox is initialized. Mailboxes that are not initialized and that are dynamically created are deleted after a mailbox expiration time period has elapsed.
Abstract:
An integrated services platform for a telephone communication system includes a plurality of application processing ports for providing different types of information services through the telephone communication system. A master control unit and a high speed digital switch control processing of incoming phone calls to recognize the type of service being requested by a subscriber and non-subscriber, and route the call to the appropriate application processing port which is capable of providing the requested service. Application processing ports can be provided to implement a number of information services including videotex, voice, speech synthesis, E-mail, facsimile store and forward, speech recognition, telex, residential call answering, business voice messaging, home shopping, classified advertising, trucking dispatch, doctor's register and automated attendant. In this manner, a centrally located services platform can be provided to provide a number of different types of service to the user.
