Abstract:
A control system for an internal combustion engine, the control system receiving an input signal from an engine speed sensor, receiving an input signal from an engine knock sensor, advancing the spark timing of the internal combustion engine until a knock signal is received from the knock sensor, and, in response to receipt of a knock signal from the knock sensor, retarding the spark timing of the internal combustion engine until a knock signal is no longer received from the knock sensor and thereafter maintaining a substantially constant spark timing until the signal received from the engine speed sensor indicates a change in engine speed.
Abstract:
A marine propulsion device including a propulsion unit, a gimbal housing for mounting the propulsion unit on a boat transom for swinging movement, and a sending device for sensing the general angular position of the propulsion unit. The sending device comprises a resistance element having an end, a fixed resistor in parallel electrical connection with the resistance element, and a wiper supported on the gimbal housing for pivotal movement along the resistance element. The marine propulsion device also includes structure operable between the wiper and the propulsion unit for moving the wiper along the resistance element in an amount which is variably proportional to the amount of swinging movement of the propulsion unit, and for moving the wiper beyond the resistance element end as the propulsion unit moves beyond the predetermined angle.

Abstract:
A method of making a thermal barrier component includes the steps of fabricating a first heat-conductive part having spaced transverse first and second projections, fabricating a second heat-conductive part having a transverse flange, moving the heat conductive parts toward each other so that the flange moves into the region between the projections, so that retaining portions on the flange end projections move into engagement and yieldably resist movement of the heat-conductive parts away from each other, and so that outer ends of the projections firmly engage respective surface portions on the second heat-conductive part, thereafter applying to the heat-conductive parts a thermal barrier material which extends between and is fixedly coupled to the heat-conductive parts, and thereafter machining away a central portion of each of the projections.
Abstract:
A window assembly comprises an open rectangular frame which, in use, is fixed, and a rectangular vent which is movable into and out of engagement with the open frame. The vent is connected to the open frame by a plurality of extensible friction linkages so arranged that the vent may be selectively adjusted angularly with respect to the frame by differential extension of at least certain of the linkages.
