The CPU acquires a motion vector of an object and calculates an angular velocity of the object based on the motion vector on the image plane of the object and the angular velocity of the imaging apparatus. Additionally, the CPU determines whether or not a panning shot is to be assisted depending on the reliability of the angular velocity of the imaging apparatus and the angular velocity of the object.
