Systems, methods, and devices for pairing devices in a wired network are provided. One method includes receiving configuration request signals at multiple devices. The method further includes exchanging public keys between two devices, generating a shared key using the public keys, determining a protected channel key using the shared key, and establishing a protected channel between the devices using the protected channel key. The method further includes transferring privacy credentials from one device to the other using the protected channel and using the privacy credentials to pair another device to the network.
Abstract:
A network architecture includes a gateway that terminates broadband service at a particular location, e.g., at the entry to a house or business. The gateway may execute a MoCA network controller (NC) that manages a network of MoCA nodes connected by cable connections. The gateway distributes content to the MoCA nodes on the network, using a logical star topology over the physical tree topology connections. The NC allocates greater downlink (gateway to MoCA node) bandwidth compared to uplink (node to gateway) bandwidth. Because the gateway terminates the broadband service, the network architecture frees very significant spectrum over the cable connections, permitting, for instance, the transmission of hundreds of Mbps of broadband content streams to the MoCA nodes.

Apparatus and methods for reducing latency in coordinated networks are provided. The apparatus and methods relate to a protocol that may be referred to as the Persistent Reservation Request (“p-RR”), which may be viewed as a type of RR (reservation request). p-RR's may reduce latency, on average, to one MAP cycle or less. A p-RR may be used to facilitate Ethernet audiovisual bridging. Apparatus and methods of the invention may be used in connection with coaxial cable based networks that serve as a backbone for a managed network, which may interface with a package switched network.

A device may include a processor circuit configured to transmit, over a network medium, a request for transmission of a data communication to a first device of a network, and receive, over the network medium, a grant of the request. When the first device is associated with a first security profile, the processor circuit may be configured to encrypt the data communication based at least on a first password associated with the first security profile. When the first device is associated with a second security profile, the processor circuit may be configured to encrypt the data communication based at least on a second password associated with the second security profile. The second password may be associated with a higher password strength than the first password. The processor circuit may be configured to transmit, over the network medium, the encrypted data communication to the first device in response to the grant.

A device for network discovery and selection includes at least one processor circuit that is configured to determine a number of networks available for connection within a configurable set of frequency bands. The at least one processor circuit is further configured to, when a single network is available for connection, and the single network being open, automatically connect to the single network. The at least one processor circuit is further configured to, when multiple networks are available for connection, the multiple networks comprising at least one open network and at least one private network: initiate a timer. The at least one processor circuit is further configured to initiate a connection with the at least one private network when a protected setup is initiated for the connection prior to the timer reaching a timeout value, otherwise connect to the at least one open network.

An example of a method of policing a flow in a home network such as a MoCA network may include calculating a policing period, calculating a first credit parameter, initializing a first usage variable at a beginning of the policing period, receiving a packet at an ingress node, calculating the first usage variable based on a first formula, determining whether the first usage variable is less than or equal to the first credit parameter, and making a reservation request when the first usage variable is less than or equal to the first credit parameter. The reservation request is different from an opportunistic reservation request. Examples of a system and a computer program product having instructions stored in a tangible computer-readable storage medium are also provided.

Systems and methods for transmitting packets over a network of communication channels are provide. A system according to the invention may include first and second nodes in communication with a coax backbone. The first node may further include a retransmission buffer. The system may also include a network access coordinator operative to coordinate access of the nodes to the coax backbone. In a time period at least one first packet is transmitted by the first node to the second node. The first packet may include an indication that retransmission service is applied. The first packet may also include a indication of the length corresponding to the packet. If, during the first time period the packet is not received by the second node, the second node is operative to send a retransmission request to the network access coordinator.

A secured communication network can include a server including an authentication backend, the authentication backend configured to communicate with an authentication front end of a communication device. A server applet can be associated with the authentication backend. The server applet can authenticate an access right associated with the communication device and establish a security level for the communication with the communication device based on information received from the authentication front end.
Abstract:
A mobile device of a user discovers topological information about electronic devices in a premise environment, and shares such information with a media gateway. The media gateway uses the topological information to augment content from a server, such as a web page that supports access to media content, to add graphical objects corresponding to those electronic devices in proximity to the mobile device that are capable of reproducing the streaming media content. Selection of the one of the add-on graphical objects causes delivery of the media content to the corresponding electronic device instead of the display of the mobile device. In this manner, a more natural selection mechanism than that available using conventional pull-down lists of options is provided.
