In an apparatus at a spinning preparation machine, especially a card, having a clothed roller, at least machine element located opposite the roller clothing and spaced radially therefrom, and having two fixed lateral holding devices on which work elements are mounted, first and second measuring elements, connected to a control device are provided for detecting variables linked to the dimensions of the roller. The first measuring element comprises a temperature probe for the temperature of the roller surface. The second measuring element comprises a rotational speed sensor for the roller speed. To allow an actual carding nip to be determined, permitting a comparison with a preset carding nip, a third measuring element for the temperature of the holding devices is provided and the control device determines the actual spacing for the roller and the side panels.

In an apparatus at a carding machine for grinding a clothing drawn onto a rotating roller, having a carrying device with at least one grinding element and an advancing device serving to set the grinding element against the clothing, wherein the apparatus comprises a biasing device serving for automatically continuing to push forward the grinding element in a contact-making direction during the grinding procedure, the carrying device is attached to the carding machine. In order to make it possible, by simple means, to shorten the time until service-readiness carrying elements adjusted in respect of the spacing b relative to the roller are utilised for adjustment of the biasing device.

In order to provide an apparatus which is dimensionally stable and which facilitates servicing work, the web-guiding element, on the one hand, and the web funnel together with the pair of draw-off rollers, on the other hand, are arranged to pivot separately about the rotary mounting and are connected to one another by means of a locking and unlocking device.

To increase productivity and to enable an improved combed sliver to be obtained, downstream of the supply device there are arranged at least two rotatably mounted rollers rotating rapidly without interruption, the clamping devices being spaced apart in the region of the periphery of the rollers, and the clamping jaws of the each clamping device are arranged to be movable in relation to one another and separately drivable.

In an apparatus for the fibre-sorting or fibre-selection of a fibre bundle comprising textile fibres, especially for combing, which is supplied to a fibre-sorting device, especially a combing device, having clamping devices which clamp the fibre bundle at a distance from its free end, which is combed to remove non-clamped constituents, the clamping devices each comprise two clamping jaws. To increase productivity and to enable an improved combed sliver to be obtained, downstream of the supply device there are arranged at least two rotatably mounted rollers rotating rapidly without interruption, the clamping devices being spaced apart in the region of the periphery of the rollers, and each clamping device comprising at least one nipper part at least partially of a lightweight material. The clamping jaws may have a high coefficient of friction in the region of their clamping surfaces.
