    Abstract: Linear induction motor-driven divert mechanisms may be installed or associated with conveying systems and may cause a change in velocity of one or more objects (i.e., a change in direction and/or a change in speed) to passing through the conveying systems. The divert mechanisms may include one or more spherical rotors including magnetizable slugs, and the spherical rotors may be rotatably positioned above positioned above one or more stator plates. Energizing one or more of the stator plates causes the corresponding spherical rotors to rotate in a given direction. Therefore, the divert mechanism may be used to transport or direct objects within conveying systems by controlling the rotation and angular velocity of one or more of the spherical rotors, which may impart motion to the objects.

    Abstract: Disclosed are various embodiments for an apparatus that dampens or reduces the impact of an item as it is discharged from a device, such as a conveyer belt. An apparatus may comprise, for example, a basket assembly that receives items as they are discharged from a chute, a conveyer belt, or other device. The basket assembly may comprise a netting material that catches or receives items as they are displaced, dampens or reduces the impact of the items, and allows the items to slide to a bottom of a receptacle. A height of the basket assembly may be adjusted by an actuator as the receptacle is filled with items. In addition, the basket assembly may be rotated as the receptacle is filled.

    Abstract: Printing systems may include a rotatable tamp head that may be repositioned, as necessary, in order to cause a label to be printed in a specific location or in a certain alignment on an object. Such tamp heads may be repositioned as necessary where the label may cross a seam, a crease, a fold or another surface feature which might cause the label to be bowed or damaged in transit. The tamp head may be positioned in a manner that would enable any information, markings or bar codes thereon to remain legible and intact even if the label is applied across such a surface feature. An orientation of the object may be determined using one or more sensors aligned at various angles with respect to a direction of travel of the object.
